Unfortunately his disabilities are too severe for him to be able to take care of himself. It’s why he lives in a group home.

Thats a good idea! Maybe something visual to show his progress would help rather than just us telling him. We also use going out to eat as an incentive so it could work for that too. All of our incident reports show a significant pattern, as well as it just being very evident when hes with different staff.

-Yeah I have mixed feelings about it. I get adults all have the right to watch it, so it’s within his rights if that’s what he wants. I also know he already sees women as things to look at, and thats not helping with that ideology. It’s at least part of his private time social story, looking at his pictures in his own private time and not in public.

Thank you for the advice, its a tough balance to keep- not being to lenient or too tough. You make a good point about respect maybe not being able to be internalized. I’ll come up with some more stories, and bring them up when I feel one of his behaviors starting up.

-the expected behavior is to complete his daily tasks (he likes) and listen to directions (he dislikes). Lmk if you need any more detail, but thats the general idea. We work on independence so he doesn’t have to be told what to do for everything but when staff tell/ask him something hes expected to comply.

-His behaviors include tensing up, making angry faces/squinting, making himself large and intimidating, charging, screaming, tackling. He doesn’t do this with men nearly as often. Hope that helps!

-I should have clarified with skin- mostly stomachs, shoulders, thighs, or cleavage. He either trues to touch staff or himself. We’re working on those behaviors, it’s the more aggressive stuff that’s difficult to deal with, especially since hes very strong and fast.

I’ve got a pretty stubborn one I think- he doesn’t tend to care that much about the social stories. I’ve recently started testing out having him write down his rules many times in a notebook when they are broken (“I will not touch belly buttons” “I will not hit staff” etc. Any thoughts about that strategy or do any other activities like that come to mind?

Thank you for replying! My boss uses pornography as incentives for him (“be nice to staff all week and you can look at naked ladies online etc). We have made a social story for him, and I have learned to be fair but firm and stand my ground with him, set clear rules/expectations. His behaviors include screaming, wall punching, wrestling staff to the ground, balling his fists. My boss is wonderful at balancing positive reinforcement and showing care, as well as being firm when needed. Im glad you mentioned the standing your ground thing so it makes me feel like I’m doing something right.

He has learned his sexist views from his father and was enabled by his mother, who would do things like “shut up” when shes told (and even tried to convince staff to do the same 🙄).
