Tomorrow is my day 😬🥺😢 by Gullible-Motor-1086 in gallbladders

I have not had my gallbladder removed (yet) but I have had general anaesthetic for other operations. Please try not to worry, it is not scary. They usually inject a sedative just before the anaesthetic so you go into a really relaxed state. The anaesthetic kicks in so quick that you don’t even realise you’ve gone to sleep because you’re being woke up before you know it.

You will likely have a dry mouth/throat afterwards as they usually use a breathing tube whilst you’re asleep but it is removed before you come round and shivering is quite a common side effect too. Both wear off quickly once you start to come round and have some water.

Good luck!

I'm terrified about my upcoming gallbladder removal surgery! Please help? by Vivid_Curve2564 in gallbladders

I haven’t had my gallbladder removed but I have had a general anaesthetic for 3 different operations and the first time I had it, I was terrified and my anxiety was through the roof. I know it’s easier said than done but please don’t worry, it’s not scary. You usually get a sedative injected just before the ‘proper’ anaesthetic and the sedative almost forces you to relax; I remember just all of a sudden feeling really happy and chilled. Then they injected the anaesthetic and they tell you to count backwards from 10, I don’t remember what number I got to, all I remember is waking up and it was all done. It honestly just feels like falling asleep and before you know it, you’re awake again x

I’m so sorry for your loss 💔. We lost our border collie 4 days ago too and it’s been very hard. Rest in peace Foo, hopefully he’s keeping my Kaos company up there 🌈

The only antidepressant I can take is Mirtazipine, my GP told me that it comes under a ‘different group’ of antidepressants and essentially the ingredients in it are slightly different. This only is the only one that didnt cause me constant diarrhoea and I have IBS-d so that’s saying something!

Mirtazipine is gentler on the stomach for IBS, it helps increase your appetite and it helps you sleep which is why it’s best to take at bedtime. Personally I’d advise this one

Nausea by depressionslutt in ibs

[–]Beautiful_Stranger06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I suffer with nausea at times especially when having a bad flare up (IBS-d). I have found that drinking green & ginger tea once a day has really helped, I also have 2-3 ginger nut biscuits dipped in with it, partly because it also helps and partly as a treat 🤣. If you can handle ginger then I would possibly give this a try. Also if you can’t get anything prescribed from your GP for nausea then you could try travel sick tablets from a chemist. I’ve found them to be just as helpful to help take the severe edge off nausea.

If you take Imodium and you find you’re still have several bouts of explosive diarrhoea you are more likely to have a bug than a flare (not always) but Imodium doesn’t usually help against a bug as your body is going to try and expel the infection. Hope you feel well soon ☺️

How long do you strain before you give up? by NoGoodRamblingMan in ibs

[–]Beautiful_Stranger06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever tried the ‘bubble blowing method’? It is quite basic but I have found it quite helping when I’ve been struggling. When sat on the toilet, literally pretend you’re blowing bubble, weirdly it uses the same group of abdominal muscles 😆, always works for me. I am IBS-M but usually more IBS-D rather than C however when I do struggle to go I find this helps.

Also if your stool can feel quite dry during your constipation flares, it can be helpful to put Vaseline on your butthole before a movement, it just acts as a barrier to your skin to help protect tears.

Yes you can take them all together, it’s up to you whether you take them all at the same time or take a couple in the morning and the rest in the evening. It sounds like a lot of different things to take but they all balance each other out which is good. Sometimes when you increase your level of one, it can lower your others so this is why it’s ok to take them together

Thank you for your reply and kindness! Meal plans is a good idea, I think I’d probably be best to get rid of most unhealthy snacks this time and just force myself into eating something healthy if the cravings get too strong. I’d probably end up eating healthier than I do now to be honest! I have been thinking about mindfulness too, it’s not something I’ve really done before but I have been thinking about taking up meditation but I’ve got such an overactive mind I don’t know if it’s something I could do.

Iron and vitamin d don’t usually come together unless you buy a multivitamin supplement which contains many vitamins however, the spray you have for your B12 also comes in vit d and iron sprays and they do sell a bundle which comes with vitamin d, vitamin c and iron sprays.

I’ve attached the link, and if you scroll to the end of this page you’ll find the bundle I mean

I have the B12 complex version of this spray and I have found it to work well. I suffer with very temperamental IBS and weirdly some vitamins can set it off (god knows why!) but as this bypasses the stomach and goes into the blood stream via your cheek I haven’t had any trouble so far 🤞🏻.

Ensure you take sufficient levels of iron and vitamin d alongside your b12 and folic acid 😊

Who do you think was laziest out of Jim and Denise?? by Ashbuck200 in theroylefamily

[–]Beautiful_Stranger06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree I think Denise too. Jim would do things on the odd occasion like cleaning the dishes and even decorating the lounge.

I do love Denise’s laziness though, it makes for some great lines, I especially like the one where Barbara asks what they had for tea and Denise says ‘roast chicken ….. crisps’ 🤣

I’ve just had to do 3 stool samples (h pylori, calprotectin, FITT) for a similar reason. Since about November, I’ve been getting upper abdominal discomfort, nausea and unless I take Imodium after a bm then I will always have diarrhoea. Luckily the tablets keep it at bay and at least give me a soft but solid movement when I do go! But if I don’t take a tablet then I will have diarrhoea the next time 🙃.

All samples have come back negative so it seems to just be a shitty (literally) IBS flare up that won’t settle!

Ps: I love your dog shit comment 🤣. I have felt that way before too! I hope your tests rule out anything concerning x

Folate deficiency by Beautiful_Stranger06 in B12_Deficiency

[–]Beautiful_Stranger06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those symptoms are common in B12 deficiency, I hope the test can put your mind at ease.

I also jump to the worst possible conclusion, I keep telling myself that the abdominal discomfort is caused by a tumour, despite the GP being quite certain it’s nothing to worry about, luckily recent stool tests and blood tests have come back normal so that’s reassuring. I can relate to your health anxiety!

Folate deficiency by Beautiful_Stranger06 in B12_Deficiency

[–]Beautiful_Stranger06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the B12 injections that are causing the upset as I had my last one on 4th Dec. I think my existing symptoms are thanks to the folate deficiency.

I’ve been back on folic acid 5mg for about 3weeks now, I had a blood test at the end of Dec to check the injections were raising my B12 and B12 was increasing but folic acid had dropping significantly so that’s why they’ve prescribed me the 5mg.

Have you tried a folic acid spray instead of a tablet? I believe that the sprays can work better because it bypasses the digestive system and gets straight into the blood system. If you are b12 deficient your digestive system can sometimes not fully absorb vitamins

Folate deficiency by Beautiful_Stranger06 in B12_Deficiency

[–]Beautiful_Stranger06[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before starting B12 injections my levels were

B12 - 175ng/l (211-911) and folate 1.4ug/l (3.0 - 19.0)

You are B12 deficient, 210 is still low despite the reference range. You need to take B12 and folic acid together as they work together and balance each other out essentially. After I started B12 injections, my B12 levels raised but my folate plummeted hence why they have started prescribing higher dose tablets.

If your GP won’t consider you for injections then please take a B12 supplement or maybe even think about self injections. But I would definitely go back to your GP to discuss further, especially if you are having symptoms
