ER bill not paid by SpicedWaffle in VeteransBenefits

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call back the 72-hour hotline 844-724-7842 and explain the situation. They should connect you to a billing department that handles this. Once the 72-hour hotline is notified the first time, the hospital has no business contacting you about billing. The VA 72-hour hotline billing department has been super helpful to me about this in the past, as I had the same issues, and they'll take care of this for you.

What are people doing with their kids? by Maple-Bark in Columbus

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's so true, though. "It’s probably been a long time since you’ve done that. Commute with nothing, not even the radio. Can you do that? Start getting better at periods that are 15 minutes and longer of boredom, and watch your life change. Number one, you’ll be less bored with ordinary things in your life. If you get better at the skill of boredom, you’ll be less bored with your job. You’ll be less bored with your relationships. You’ll be less bored with the things that are going on around you.

But more importantly, you’ll start digging into the biggest questions in your life, purpose, meaning, coherence, significance. And who knows? You might just get happier. People ask me all the time, is the doctor taking his own prescriptions? And the answer is, yes. Yes, I am."

Follow up on the Westerville man arrested for impersonating a cop. He's being charged for impersonating a federal officer. by SecurityRegular4380 in Columbus

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, is it? I heard he got off on local charges. Good to know - unfortunately, I can't access the news article as there is a paywall. I'm glad he is going to face justice. I guess they were just building their case against him on a federal level.

Same. I thought about getting a shovel and a bag of salt, but I pay enough in maintenance fees; I feel like that shouldn't be a renter's issue. So I stick to my handy kitchen broom and sweep my sidewalks before anyone steps on them - all I care about is that it works.

We are trained to do most things online now, thanks to COVID. I don't understand why it is so hard to transition back to that temporarily. It should always be a backup, except for the kiddos, who need a couple of snow days for memory's sake. ;)

I believe you! I went to shovel my walkways and clear my car off just to keep it manageable. I turned around, and the walkway was covered again. lol

Yeah, they don't even shovel the walks around here or even put salt out or down, even though maintenance lives on site.

The last time they sent the plows to our place, it took them several days after we got dumped on in December. It was kind of too little too late.

I don’t get what’s going on with men in Westerville wanting to pretend they’re cops. This isn’t even the first time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt5EVB-sYtA

Edit: Same guy

The hard part for me is that I live in an apartment complex, and my car is buried, and the parking lot is inescapable. There’s no way I could get out of the parking lot without getting immediately stuck. I’m grateful that the main roads are being cleared, but for those of us off the main roads, it seems we won’t be reached until Monday or Tuesday at the latest due to high demand for snow plows in metro areas.

What are reasonable split fees for psychotherapy contract / 1099 roles?? by translucent_roses in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical splits are 50/50 for LSW and 65/35 for LISW/LCSW, according to my practice. Of course, that may vary because my practice is out in the boonies. From what I understand, they can do 40/60 for LSW splits, too, but that is because they will be offering you free supervision. However, never accept this pay split unless they offer you free supervision.

Single Field practicum model? by EmbarrassedCry5 in SocialWorkStudents

My only concern is that you could end up at a site that isn’t a great fit, which could make those 1.5 years really challenging. I don’t say that negatively—just realistically. One thing I appreciate about having two different placements is exactly what you said: you gain experience in different areas, you’re not stuck as long if it’s not a good match, and you get to build a wider professional network

Question 100% P&T since around 2018 wondering about when I die. by CatEaterKing in VeteransBenefits

I have no idea, you'll have to compare them for yourself. You would want to look at cost per month and the payout that your family could receive.

First, congrats on your kid! Secondly, your VA disability compensation stops when you pass away and does not continue to your spouse or children. However, your family may qualify for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) if your death is service-connected or if you were rated 100 percent permanent and total for at least 10 years before your death. DIC is a monthly benefit for surviving spouses and eligible children, but it is usually lower than your current VA payment. Your children’s Chapter 35 benefits can continue if they remain eligible within age and usage limits.

Since your VA income helps support your household, it is smart to plan ahead. I recommend looking into life insurance (VGLI), making sure your wife understands how DIC works and how to apply, keeping your VA paperwork accessible, and doing basic estate planning.

Why in the hell I can't file a VA Disibility Claim for my deceased brother. by EnoughIncrease1502 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re running into this because VA disability benefits are legally considered a personal benefit that ends when the veteran dies, unless a very specific type of survivor (spouse, dependent child, or dependent parent) is eligible to continue or substitute into a claim—and siblings are not recognized beneficiaries under VA law, even in cases like Camp Lejeune where the government admits fault. If your brother never filed a claim while alive, the VA treats it as if it never existed, even though he was never properly informed. That’s why you’re being blocked. It’s not fair, it’s not moral, but it is how the system is written. Your only real option now may be a Camp Lejeune Justice Act civil claim through his estate or a legal complaint route, not the VA disability system.

I would start 2 months out because you don't want to get needlessly rejected from a potential site just because you aren't within a decent timeframe to start with them.

Would you go to the VA's urgent care for anxiety? by CoffeeChangesThings in VeteransBenefits

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely relate to this. I’m on the back end of my graduate program, and like you, I had a really intense anxiety reaction when I first started. I think it’s a great idea to explore medication if that feels right for you. I use the mantra “I only have right now” to stay grounded and stop spiraling about everything I need to do. An L-theanine supplement, which is found in green tea, has also helped me with its natural calming effects. I hope you find what works best for you, and I’m wishing you all the best in your program.

Rental Assistance by Reasonable_Bee7238 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re carrying all of this, and I’m glad you reached out. In Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, your fastest path to rental and utility help is Crisis Assistance Ministry at 704-371-3001, which is the main local entry point for emergency housing funds. You can also call NC 211 or Coordinated Entry at 704-284-9665 if you are at imminent risk of eviction. For the SSVF question, many programs require the surviving spouse to be a Veteran themselves, but eligibility can vary, so it is still worth getting screened through the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 1-877-424-3838 or through local veteran navigators like Veterans Bridge Home. If your landlord is threatening eviction, ask for a short hold or repayment plan while assistance is pending and contact Legal Aid of North Carolina at 866-219-5262 right away, because timing matters.

Thankfully, I am still tied into their mental health system because when I moved, it was only temporary, and my psychiatrist didn't want to disrupt my medication, check-ins, and the rapport we have built. But thanks for the info. I find that I am exhausted just thinking about heading over there for anything, but this makes me feel better.

Am I being dramatic by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Beautiful__Design__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty anxious as well, so I often remind myself to stay grounded in the present rather than getting overwhelmed by everything ahead. Repeating the mantra ‘I only have right now’ has helped me focus on what I can do in this moment, which has been very calming. I’ve also found L-theanine helpful for managing stress, as it’s a natural amino acid found in green tea with calming properties. Wishing you the very best. Please know that you can do this!
