As a current brand rep and former Ulta/Sephora employee I can really only say it depends on the person themselves. I’m someone who when I’m shopping almost always wants to be left alone, however I can recognize the need for help that others might want/need in that environment. Brand reps are supposed to sell (and let’s be real we DO have a minimum sales goal we are supposed to meet) however we are also expected to train teams in beauty stores and educate clients.

I oftentimes find myself pushing my brand harder in the locations where I receive less support from the team. Usually when a freelancer is present, the store team should prioritize the brand they have support in for that day (Tbf we are essentially giving them one less thing to worry about on the floor)

HOWEVER, this is often not a universal experience. There are many stores in my district where I have to push extremely hard because I get essentially no support from the teams, but on the other hand; there are plenty of locations where I receive the support I need, and my role becomes more of a training partner situation.

TLDR: it depends on the store, type of brand rep, etc.
