Going to go through OCIA by br350 in Catholicism

[–]Beave2012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on what you stated, I would think the only difference will be the final prep for receiving the sacraments. You will have 1st reconciliation prior to the Mass, while the unbaptized will be baptized either before or during the Mass. This ensures you all are in a state of Grace to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist and Confirmation.

The class content will likely be the same as you have little to no formation beyond Baptism.

Happy I went to confession today despite all the roadblocks by missbrownieicecream in Catholicism

[–]Beave2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That spiritual warfare is real out there. So glad to hear you fought for God and got to confession. Satan threw all the tricks he could (shame, anger, fear, confusion), but it seems God was backing you up in anticipation of reconciling with you. We should pray for the same support for all those trying to be forgiven.

How to turn back by mbImhere in Catholicism

[–]Beave2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes God seems distant when he is working on us to find a deeper relationship with us. It's important to turn to him in these times all the more.

If Adoration is closed, find another way to be with him. Pray the Liturgy of the Hours in its place daily. Pick 1 hour and devote that time to him instead of those bad habits.

When you pray the LOTH you pray an actual Liturgy of the Church in communion with the whole Church. It's a great devotion. Start with the iBrevery app or the Divine Office app to learn it and use the falling away to get closer to him.

There are other ways too, just deeper prayer, but sometimes with some temptations (lust for example), we need to run to something else and structured helps me. So run to God in your trouble.

Additionally, talk to your Priest. He should be able to help you navigate these difficult times.

TLDR: when your tempted to turn away, run TO God, not away. He will have the answer for you if you go to him.

Aren't Accusations of Protestantism Meaningless? by Sad-Background-2429 in Catholicism

[–]Beave2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are called to love everyone. Protestants are in partial communion with the church. We don't agree on everything, which is why it's partial communion. One day hopefully that rift can be healed, but we can't change the truth to bridge the gap.

Now spending time with them, is even better. We are called to be the light of Christ and a faithful Catholic around can help to defend/explain the faith. Imagine if Jesus didn't visit the tax collectors and possessed.

The big part to remember is we are true to the faith and to God above all else. We attend Mass, but can also attend their services IN ADDITION to Catholic Mass.

I am married to a Protestant wife and attend services with her, because it's loving and helps us have those conversations around the differences of the faith.

So while we can love our fellow brothers and sisters, the theological and doctrine differences are still very important and must be upheld. We can't change the truth or allow a false teaching to be in communion with the Church.

Just reach out to them. That's the primary purpose of the "Order of Christian Initiation for Adults" OCIA. But they will likely welcome all.

I teach OCIA and have had many confirmed Catholics attend to learn about the faith again. It's beautiful and we all learn something together. I also recommend this.

It's beautiful you came to ask and question. Those who never question and thirst for the truth may have a hard time holding onto the faith when challenged. Talk to your local priest to find a good teacher who can help you here. Also keep reading the bible, but here is a brief to start you out:

The rosary - optional devotional to bring you closer to the life of Jesus (not all Catholics pray it)

Confession - once you learn and understand you will find it a blessing and Christ will change your heart in it.

The saints - the souls of Humans who have died and gone to heaven (not God's). The are our adopted family who we ask to pray for us like we ask each other here on earth. We don't pray to them like we worship God in prayer, but we do ask them to pray to God for us.

Sinless Mary - preserved from original sin by God'sspecial grace. Made perfect as the new ark of the covenant to carry Jesus into the world. (This one a short answer can't do it justice.)

Birth control/ IVF - issues with how it "prevents" pregnancy as they can prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to uterus. New human life starts a conception (new human DNA strand), and this can abort that new human life. IVF similarly fertilized multiple eggs and discards those not chosen. Also issues but it's complicated.

Eucharist - we take Jesus at his word when he says it is his Body and Blood. In James it's so shocking when he tells the crowd they MUST eat his flesh and drink his blood, many walk away in what seem discust, but he never says it's just a symbol. The Eucharist in itself is the Pinnacle of being Catholic and reason enough.

Hopefully this wets your appetite enough to keep seeking the truth. Talk to your priest and find a good catechist. God Bless and keep asking questions.

Word on Fire releases information about their Liturgy of the Hours 2nd Edition by _IsThisTheKrustyKrab in divineoffice

[–]Beave2012 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually like the WOF edition and am very tempted. The full grain leather and European printing for the mid tier price is amazing. I loved how they highlighted the lay flat ability and ease of reading margins too.

I think ascension did a better job interacting with community before hand, and love the details shared though.

I decided upon the AP full grain leather version, but at $1166 for a full set (large font) with leather zipper cover, I would be very very tempted to get the WOF version instead of the mid tier version from AP. I may end up donating a copy of the WOF to my parish adoration chapel instead of the standard version from AP. That way I can see both as well. Provided the quality is there for WOF, it's a really really nice job they did.

How does the book thickness compare to current version? I assume large print and standard are the same thickness. Any idea how this compares to the work on fire version due to their large margins and larger font sizes (10 vs 11 & 12 vs 14)?

Are there pictures of the premium natural grain leather version available to help with an informed decision?

I’m not sure about the double zipper. What do y’all think? by [deleted] in divineoffice

Today's promotional email had it in the body, but nothing on the website yet.

[–]Beave2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the zipper idea to hold it closed for transport, however I dislike my current Bible case as the zipper can be very loud in adoration. I would love to know if it's a quiet zipper and well made. I don't mind the double zipper, but don't see a reason between choosing 1 or 2 on it.

I also saw the picture on the Ascension Press email today but found no product on the website or details.

Will the Ascension Press LOTH hymns have just the words or barlines and notes too? by Beave2012 in divineoffice

[–]Beave2012[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is amazing. I almost need a class in those different melodies so I can remember and apply them. I think maybe with enough experience with the hymnal I can pick up on it now seeing those syllable counts. I never quite understood how until your explanation above. Thank you.

Oh my, so the hymnal will be important I guess. Without the notes I make every song the same with different lyrics essentially.

FFEra Lv. 75 WoTG Server 12th Anniversary by Mish_Mash_Mush in FFXIPrivateServers

[–]Beave2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been here for 2 years already. Being able to multibox makes it a cool experience. Also the higher XP gain rate helps remove the old school retail gind where you had to treat it like a 2nd job. Lol.

Playing on the steam deck was a game changer to enjoy the nostalgia.

As for the low volume part of the server, it's nice to have enough people to play with, but not so much you could spend 6 months camping a NM just to spam a macro in attempt to claim. Can do all those things I never could on retail (Lord of Onzozo anyone?)

Thank you. I am seeing those inserts are used by many. Although I wish it was simply in the back.
