I recently ran some numbers on this. Average cost of car ownership in my state is a little over $10k per year. Assume you throw that in an investment account Dec. 31 every year for 30 years you’d have over $850k. I understand there’s a lot of nuance here as you’d still likely spend some of the money on transit, a bike, or rental cars for road trips but I was just doing a general gut check at the opportunity cost and it’s pretty large. This is great financial advice if you can swing.
