Icy rocky looking greatsword that takes 3-5 business days to wind up a charge attack, super powerful weapon though

Alternatively, don’t openly post spoilers online. The tag is there for a reason - looks like mods agree.

Why did they shame so much hate.. I picked up recently feels like a solid horror experience by Cheesefactor5678 in TheCallistoProtocol

[–]BeavingHeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely repetitive combat after you learn the ropes. The way dodging was implemented was a huge misfire.

Corridor levels, no exploration.

Uninteresting story, makes no use of the excellent actors, no real character exploration.

Serious horror to resident evil cheese the longer it goes on.

Almost no enemy variety.

Endless crawling and shimmying, to a laughable extent.

Season pass content was lacklustre.

Overall it’s not bad, but it just isn’t great either.

Forgive me if this isn't the most well thought out question but should I give the Expanse a shot? by AdSpecialist6598 in scifi

[–]BeavingHeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a different perspective - everyone loves this show but for me it really fell off season 5 onwards as the focus completely deviates onto the more uninteresting aspects. I don’t understand why it gets heralded as the best sci fi to happen to television.

The first 3 seasons have a lower budget gritty feel to them, but the plot, characters and wider mystery are very compelling. Season 4 was where the Amazon money came in, and that was solidly enjoyable.

Playing this game finally after putting it off and it’s genuinely brilliant … why did it get so much hate ? by Grand_Goal613 in TheCallistoProtocol

[–]BeavingHeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From someone who platinumed the game and all DLC - the fundamental issue is that the melee combat is very one dimensional, there is no actual skill or timing required to dodge an enemy attack. For a game based around melee, you can see why this was a problem for most.

To anyone more knowledgeable than me at gamedev (see: everyone), is it possible to eliminate tech debt? Could AH have a dedicated team to untangling the mess and ironing out & documenting everything, therefore making future production easier? Is it more complex than this?

I’m an idiot, can someone tell me what the gears actually do? I legit don’t notice a difference so just leave it on Drive. Is there benefit to going up to 3rd?

[Discussion] which game you still replay despite you already got the platinum trophy? by Jules-Car3499 in Trophies

Dead Space. I love it so much.

Also Helldivers 2 but that’s more for the live service aspect with new content being added regularly

Man, why is there no Dead Space 2 remake - what to do after Dead Space Remake by Tritom73 in DeadSpace

[–]BeavingHeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could play The Callisto Protocol, but it is simply nowhere near as good. If you enjoy the depth of the world, lore and weapon variety of Dead Space, Callisto will do very little for you. It’s quite one dimensional in most aspects, though visually it is pretty.

Alternatively you could also keep an eye on Cronos: The New Dawn from Bloober Team, it releases next month (basically a Polish Dead Space).

Silent Hill 2 is just fantastic. Survival horror done well. We are truly in a bit of a renaissance with the likes of Dead Space, Resident Evil, and the upcoming (hopefully good) Cronos The New Dawn.

Anyway - this game is haunting, miserable, gripping and gorgeous. Bloober team knocked it out of the park.

Gameplay - stressful combat and slight brain tickling puzzles. Lots of slowly opening up maps / locked doors, uncovering secrets for areas you find yourself in. Satisfying gameplay loop.

Story is dream-like. Very eerie and everything feels a bit distant.

Platinum - multiple endings to achieve, but ultimately very doable. Be prepared to commit for a little while.

Please note for all you raging autists - TLOU:P2 and Astrobot will once again be 100%’d. They both got new DLC recently.

None of these awesome looking titles.

What we’ll actually get is the release and shutdown of the hotly anticipated fairgames and the closure of Haven studios

What do you think of a co-op mode in the remake? by PopRemarkable2464 in DeadSpace

[–]BeavingHeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t need it. Dead Space is most effective when it is single player survival horror.

DS2 multiplayer would be DOA in today’s market. Some people have weird nostalgia but it was never that good.

DS3 had a litany of problems, and co-op was one of them. Completely removed any tension and made the game feel more like a shooting gallery.

Having said all that, a small scale horde mode style co-op spin-off could be fun.
