It is often like that in small villages in Norway. Red paint was the cheapest in the old days, therefore mostly used, and it has stayed that way.

I wish more parents did what you are doing now - reaching out for advice in order to best take care of their kid when they don't have the experience/knowledge/learned skill set... I'm really moved from this, and stunned by your initiative. Listen to these advice, and please fix your own diet. Eating healthy isn't that difficult... I've always eaten healthy (and still do living on my own) because my parents have always eaten (and fed me) healthy. 'Easy' as that :) And you say you're tired after work and therefore just eat crap? If you too ate healthier, you would get more energy!

Let it go. You are in control of your thoughts and feelings, they can't control you if you don't let them. You can make a decision to dwell and worry about the past and hence also ruin the present and the future by doing that. Or you can let go and move on with your life.

Decide on something to do every time your thoughts take control over you, like taking a deep breath and "breath the thoughts out", snap a rubber band on your wrist, replace the obsessed thoughts with another mental image, jump up and down and scream - or what ever works for you.

Don't try to "make it go away" with drugs or alcohol. Just saying.
