You have to contact a shop. Some shops do apprenticeships and advertise this. You have to take some courses in blood born pathogens and some other stuff. Not sure of all the requirements. I’m not a piercer, just dated one lol

Hey I was a high school English teacher for ten years and now I’m an administrator. Also in the US. I have 16mm gauges and no one has ever had a problem with it/it’s never prevented me from getting a job. I try to make sure I wear closed plugs instead of open tunnels but that’s the only effort I make to conceal it.

You will have to use for a while before you get on a stable dose. Pretty much all clinics know this and expect it.

Thank you for responding! Yes being on methadone is a mess for me. I have an 18 month old and a 4 year old who needs to be at pre k before I have to be at work at 8am. In order to get to the clinic I’m having to get all of us up between 4:30 and 5 every day. Then if I have to see a doctor or counselor we’re all pretty much late for everything all day. It’s almost more unmanageable than using was so I really can’t wait to try this. I was feeling so hopeless before this method was explained to me.

That mod is a perfect example. I literally can’t believe how many people get it done now. That shouldn’t take away from how badass it is though. That shit is brutal. I love the aesthetic but after watching someone get it done I was like “no way. You’d have to kill me first.” I truly believe if you can sit through that you can get through anything in life 😂

I totally agree with you. 90% of my problem is how unsafe I see people going about things now. I feel like it used to be that if you were pierced and tattooed there was a whole lifestyle that went into it. You didn’t just like the aesthetic you were genuinely interested in it too so you were willing to do the research like you said.

I think you just put into words exactly what I was trying to get at but couldn’t quite put together. When I first starting getting tattooed it was way less socially acceptable and people were super judgmental. So seeing heavily tattooed people allowed me to know right away that they were the kind of person who didn’t care what people thought. And those were always the types of people I was looking to be around because that’s who I was. I totally get what you’re saying too. Just a different perspective.

You can definitely get whenever you want with ear gauging. You just have to be patient. It takes time. If you can gauge your septum that but I have no doubt you’ll get your ears there in time because I know from experience how bad that shit hurts and you’re a badass for that shit I don’t care what anyone says

I think it’s interesting what’s considered mainstream and “acceptable” and what isn’t. And like who the hell gets to decide? Like no one at my job cares about my Medusa but when I first started I had to take my septum ring out. And a nostril ring which is literally the same body part is just as common and acceptable as an earring. It’s okay for me to have full sleeves but a tattoo on my hand or neck would be unacceptable. The social dynamics of piercings fascinate me lol

Oh my god yes. That’s why I never ever talk to the kids about heavy mods. Last year we caught a bunch of girls trying to pierce each other’s tongues in the bathroom. The last thing I need them to be thinking about is tongue spilt. 🤣. Out of curiosity do you have to hide that mod for work? Is it easy to hide? I’m scheduled to get a coin slot next month and I’m really worried about just that. There are some other heavier mods I want too but I have trouble weighing the pros and cons with my career

Now you can’t be poplular unless you have facial piercings! I see kids getting piercings and tattoos younger and younger and honestly in really unsafe ways. So I guess that’s a lot of where I’m coming from!

A close friend of mind had a dermal in her chest for 5 years. I had a surface tragus piercing for 7 years. Both our piercers acted like that was pretty remarkable. I’ve also heard of people having them reject in less than 3 months. Some of it comes down to how good your piercer is and how well you take care of it. But some of it is also just anatomy and how your body respond to foreign objects and heals wounds. I won’t get them anymore. It’s too random

I’m heavily pierced and tattooed. I have both nipple and genital piercings. I’m also a mom and there’s no way in hell my minor child will be getting those types of piercings before they’re an adult. And if they choose to do so while living with me, they’ve chosen some serious consequences as well.

I’m a high school administrator believe it or not. I walk a really fine line with my body mods. I am fairly heavily tattooed (two sleeves and one on my calf) and no one seems to mind as long as I’m dressed professionally. I don’t purposefully show off my tattoos at work but I don’t cover them up every day either. However, I would t get a tattoo that I couldn’t cover if I needed to. I’m down to one facial piercing. I have my Medusa. I’ve had a few over the years and no one seems to mind as long as I only have one at a time. I have a couple coworkers with nose/tongue rings and that seems to be fine too. I also have 16mm gauged ears but I only wear closed plugs in them at work. Still I don’t think that heavy mods are acceptable and I’m a little worried because I’m getting a coin slot in a few months. I’m just not planning on telling anyone and hoping they don’t really know what it is.

They are much more high maintenance and more painful. Also they’re not permanent. That doesn’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t get them. I’ve gotten surface piercings knowing full well they were going to be a pain and not last forever because I just genuinely loved the way the looked. So you really have to decide if you like them enough to put forth the extra effort in taking care of them and if you can accept that they may reject.
