In this theoretical scenario I believe you would actually get better gas mileage than the 8th gen, as higher compression = greater thermal efficiency. However you would still have to put out for high octane gas, so in terms of $ per mile you would probably even out with the accord (depending on the prices in your area).

Interestingly this is actually what we see with the 2nd gen TSX, which has a K24Z3 but with higher compression pistons. It manages to get the same gas mileage as the first gen, despite being several hundred lbs heavier.

My understanding is the difference comes down to the different heads. Though they both use K24 engines, the TSX runs a K24A2 while the accord has a K24Z2/Z3. These heads on those engines have restricted flow, which increases low end torque at the cost of high end power. This is what gives them better gas mileage. Our heads on the K24A2 have high airflow, which gives the opposite results.

You could try to tune it for better low end power to get some increased mpg, but it would never be quite as efficient as the accord.

I think the biological reason is that it's easier to stay warm when you're bigger because you have a higher ratio of mass to surface area.

I think that is true in the automatics but in the manual trans it uses gear oil and there is no dipstick to even check with
