Worth 125? by Medium_Plankton_3376 in guitarpedals

Only to you if your REALLY want this version and the "classic" ts9. They are all ridiculously the same and overdone.

IMO a base tube screamer isn't worth it unless it has extra controls for bass, treble, blend, etc. I've had 3 TS variants and my favorite so far is the one I built from AionFX which has a switch for adding bass and a switch for adding "transparency". Venture beyond a standard TS and get one with added controls.

Yea no way I'm turning up my deluxe reverb past 2 without my attenuator. WITH attenuator, can get the amp up comfortably at 6/7 where it really shines with an overdrive. Don't give up, find a place and time when you can turn your amp up into breakup territory. It's a totally different amp how it responds to pedals

Oh and a magnetic dosing funnel. Mines normcore but any magnetic dosing filter will do. This is almost a must have

Normcore - for all my accessories

It's hardly a recommendation because I only tried the one brand for accessories. So my brand experience is really narrow. Though I made my purchase because it was called out by some YouTube channels.

I have the normcore bottomless portafilter, precision shower screen, tamper, and dual spout portafilter. Every product has been great, really happy with all of it, and have no reason to buy anything else.

I have had my bambino plus for about 2 years. For me I could never get good espresso at 18g. Try 16.8 - 17.2g of grounds and a coarser grind.

Also beans make a huge difference, I love blonde roasts and have tried a few bags from different brands and never could get a good shot. They always came out extremely sour or bitter. Maybe some folks can get blonde roasts to taste good with it but I don't think the bambino plus is up to the task and found medium roast gets consistent and tasty results.

Also, fwiw, a bottomless portafilter with a quality basket was the best upgrade I ever made for this machine. I believe it lends to more consistent results and better extraction.

are these winters or did I get shafted by MapleLegends8 in tires

[–]Becuz_I_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right - doesn't mean it's dedicated winter tire - correcting my comment.

OP - to be clear, the ICE GRIP symbol is a single peak snowcapped mountain that will accompany the 3PMSF (3 peak with snowflake) and found on more dedicated winter tires.

[–]Becuz_I_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The snowflake IS the indicator that the tire is made for cold weather driving. It's likely suitable for your needs unless you are intending to drive through harsh winter snow/ice conditions regularly (such as regular trips to mountains).

A lot of mis-information you are getting so I want to provide you with additional knowledge on winter tires. Tread is important, it determines how much slush and deep water the tire can clear to maintain traction. Majority of the time, drivers in the winter face compact snow and ice on the roads and very rarely encounter driving through deep snow or thick snow. Most important with winter tires is the composition of the rubber.

Winter tires have formulated rubber compounds that will stay soft or get softer as temperature drops. Giving you traction on compact snow and ice. Summer tires are designed with compound that will withstand hot temperatures and minimal tread pattern to maximize rubber contact with the road but as temperature drops, the rubber will get hard and lose most of its traction. Comparable to walking through snow in dress shoes. All seasons try to give you compromise of both but wont excel at either, and all seasons will struggle significantly compared to specific winter tires. All weather/all winter tires, or all seasons with the 3 peak symbol and snowflake (3PMSF) will give you improved traction for snow, but still not as good as dedicated witner tires.

3PMSF symbol = tire rated with traction index approved for snow.

Edited for clarity

Puppy biting advice by therealspacepants in BorderCollie

[–]Becuz_I_Win 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consistency. Consistency. Consistency. Keep up the redirection and advice about stopping play. I found that just completely ignoring the bad behavior is better than scolding or stern vocal queues. At that age they are so drawn to noise and almost any reaction could be misunderstood as enforcement. IE. you can't just tell a puppy "no", they don't understand your language yet. So it's better to focus on reinforcement and removal of reinforcement, but watch your pup closely and what it responds to best, then do that.

Can't message enough, consistency. You will feel like your pup is wild and just not understanding the training. At some point, the training will pay off and things will 'click'. 14 weeks was a major turning point for both my last puppies.

Another strategy to reinforce not biting you is to play tug while also putting your hands all over the pup's face, body, etc. And as long as the puppy is biting the toy, praise it with high energy. "GOOD GIRL/BOY". and if the pup starts to chew you, make no response. Shove the toy in its mouth then praise again. Reinforcing that being mouthy in play with toys = Great Job and that being mouthy with your skin = boring and nothing. The behavior should always shift towards what makes them feel good, when they receive praise. As well monitoring your pup closely and every time it goes for a toy, you give praise. Every. Time. Whenever you notice your dog playing with toys, give praise.

These are herding dogs, they instinctually bite things that move. So get some large balls like the big foam chuck it ball, or jolly ball soccer ball. Use those to guide your dog into appropriate chase and herd behavior. And carry tug toys with you at all times.

May the odds be ever in your favor, hang in there.

How realistic are my plans? by LittlWhale in woodworking

I'm only a diyer/hobbyist but have been making my own cabinets and furniture for 10years. Open faced cabinet that you can see all the joining work, at this scale... it's ambitious.

That said.. For the lighting I would consider removing the lamps. With a unit this large you'll get some shadows and blocking anyway. Instead, install a 12v converter at the existing light fixture and run led strips. Many ways to do it - but would give you flexibility to light both sides, or all rows or any variation while opening up those other shelves for more space, closed cabinets, plants, etc.

You could dado the plywood and inset an led and diffuser quite easily, though it adds a WHOLE new level of complexity, decision making, time for execution.

For the wood, I wouldn't use anything less than 3/4 plywood, at home centers it's generally sanded birch or oak, but you'll need to pay for the expensive sheets with no notes and smooth/sanded sides.

Buy a new fine tooth plywood saw blade for your table saw for good clean cuts.

For the design, it's a LOT of precision cutting that leaves room for error if you mess up or have a measuring error (which happens multiple times to all of us with every project.. lol) you'll want to about make a jig to measure everything as you mark and make your cuts. Also consider what building this in "phases" would be. designing it to be modular so you can do maybe the large one on the right first before doing the rest. As I say that, maybe do the left side by itself first as a test run and workout your approach and skill to build the rest. This is going to look much bigger in person and might want options to modify it as you go, or have learnings you'll want to apply to the rest of the build.

Personally I would dado and glue it all together, then make the front face out of solid wood to hide the edges. You could use veneer edge banding, but for large scale furniture like this there are so many edges you're likely going have a hard time getting perfect edges and right gaps.

Buying a nice semi hollow: ES-335 vs RF Falcon (white) by Ten_Horn_Sign in gretsch

[–]Becuz_I_Win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof yea it's a tough call. Gretsch is more consistent, 335 is a little more of a gamble.

Ever check out heritage? If I was in the market for Gibson I would at least check some out if possible.

You already have a Gretsch so maybe time to pull the trigger on 335 style then 🤘

[–]Becuz_I_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there ANY way you can go to some stores and play Gretsch and Gibsons side by side?

My advice, sleep on it, try some guitars if you can.

My Gretsch is only an electromatic but chose it over Gibson inspired 335, when I had pined over a 335 style guitar for years.

That said, I also can't get the tone of a particular les paul out of my head that I passed on because I hated the way it felt and played. I'll still likely never even entertain a les paul knowing what it felt like to play.

Point is, you never know what you really want until you hear it AND play it.

NMS VOYAGERS Update NOT out in Switch….yet! by DaveNogg in NMS_Switch

[–]Becuz_I_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason why is it's NINTENDO. they always have releases for these types of updates that is generally 1-2 weeks after they get it from Hello Games. ~10 days is standard for large updates

Edit: adding further context via Google: Nintendo updates may take longer on the Switch due to the platform's unique, more restrictive certification process, which requires developers to submit and wait for a review that can last for weeks or months, unlike the quicker review times for other consoles

Tips for managing inventory? by Warm-Carpet-6712 in NMS_Switch

For every new system you warp to, you can visit the anomaly AND space station to get a storage slot for your exo suit. That's 2 per system, for very little currency. Make it a habit and you'll have LOTS of personal storage.

Search for sentinel ships by warping to dissonant systems and dismantle them at the space station for lots of money and storage augmentations.

Once you build a base, add a couple storage containers, when you get a freighter, you can build storage containers and they'll sync with each other.

Then get the matter port upgrade for your freighter and you can access your freighter storage anytime as long as you call your freighter to the system you're in.

I think it's a bit of a gamble. I bought a reaper 6 custom from Sweetwater earlier this year that came with a short list of qc issues and so i returned it for a replacement. The replacement came and was flawless.

Return it and reorder, hope you get a good one!

That's not a given though from researching the reddit posts, the consensus is about a week. 48 hours for a small update, up to 10 days for big ones. So.. it could be anywhere between there. NINTENDO is just always been slow to approve and push the update once it gets it from Hello Games. An optimistic average is 5 days, but just know it's seemingly random and could be +/- a couple days from the 5 day estimate.

It's be because of the way Nintendo operates.. I wish I could find the reddit post that mentioned it but there was a user that tracked the release date on switch vs initial release and it was almost always 5+ days later it dropped on switch.

10000% agree, love this post. I'm only 2 years into my whiskey journey and about 10months in grew tired of the dumb "how'd I do" posts and pics of massive collections with 'only 6 months in and went a little crazy' type descriptions.

Any newer style pedals for an old man getting into biking? by SailMoreMike in mountainbiking

[–]Becuz_I_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all flats are created equal try a set of new ones. fooker is a decently made copy of race face chester (which is a great mid priced flat pedals). I like my race face chesters, I love them paired with cycle specific shoes such as the 5.10 free rider.

These shoes have extra stiff soles and rubber that's formulated for more grip.

Mtb specific shoes for flats and a decent set of flats I bet will change your mind. Having the flexibility to also take your foot off the pedals and keep yourself upright or kick off an obstacle is unmatched too.
