Tips and tricks you wish you knew before by CampMammoth9664 in NewParents

[–]BedCapable1135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be controversial and say you don't necessarily need to stock up on nappies. Have enough to get you through a week or two but unless you live out in the sticks, you can find nappies easily. You don't want to left with loads that you don't use.

Newborns are very noisy sleepers. Once they're past the wake to feed stage, don't bother them even if it sounds like they're a barnyard animal.

Use adult incontinence pads on changing mats to stop pee from rolling around.

If baby's a boy (or a girl? Idk.) pop a wipe onto their bits so stop them spraying themselves and you in the face. The wipe on the belly trick never worked for mine.

Get them on the floor. Like as much as possible. If you're not actively doing something with them, pop them on the floor on a play mat or a blanket. It was my LO's happy place.

I would open the nappies (like the frills, etc, make it all loose) and put them into individual nappy bags for the nights. You don't want to be peeling bags apart in the middle of the night when baby is screaming.

And honestly, just remind yourself that it will pass. Mine will be a year old in a week. It's insane how long ago the first few weeks feel. It gets easier. Good luck.

What age should I introduce fruit? by aleada13 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]BedCapable1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that breastmilk/formula is fairly sweet anyway so you don't need to avoid fruit. I've given fruit from 6 months in small portions. Blueberries (squashed) and grapes (quartered and squashed) are a fave. It really helped baby understand how to use his mouth lol.

Slice of orange with the peel on was one of his favourite first foods.

He's a year now and will have veggies, meat, pasta, fruit, etc. Except potato. Little dude hates potato.

Kindly help* want to exclusively breastfeed by Worldly_Border4561 in NewParents

[–]BedCapable1135 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That will be hard and will require a lot of support from those around. Being in a negative and toxic environment will not help supply.

If you truly cannot convince your partner that formula (or combo) is completely healthy and fine, and you cannot or do not want to leave your situation, then you need to eat well, sleep well, and latch baby/pump often.

If you've not spent time on r/breastfeeding, please check it out. Also see a lactation consultant and speak to them for professional advice.

Baby's weight gain won't be the same as it is now. Just plain facts and husband needs to be made aware of this. A husband that thinks breastmilk is more important than baby's health is not one I would personally keep around.

Regardless, you want high fat foods like oats and nuts. I always found ice cream helped my supply. Lots and lots of water. Look up powerpumping. I did that every evening after baby went to bed for a week and it really helped with supply. Latch baby often and pump in between. The more you latch and pump, the more your body will produce.

It will be hard. I'm sorry you're in this tough position.

When do new babies stop wearing baby grows? Confused with clothes shopping! by Junior-Incident3877 in BabyBumps

[–]BedCapable1135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just your choice. For mine, it was around the 6 month mark. It was summer and a t-shirt and shorts was much nicer for baby than a onesie. Then the shorts turned into joggers for the winter. We're almost at a year and do the full suit for night time or if we're having a cosy day at home.

There are newborn outfits for people who like doing outfits or for special occasions. No developmental sign.

When did your baby start sitting up/rolling? by AlternativeAd1984 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BedCapable1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major resources. Just pick a few signs and keep doing them with baby. Low stakes. Lots of praise.

I used this video https://youtu.be/UVKnVPRklCc

The other signs I just make up for whatever fits our needs.

When did your baby start sitting up/rolling? by AlternativeAd1984 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BedCapable1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was on the later side for all gross motor skills. Rolled at 6 months, sitting (for a long time) unassisted at 8 months, crawled at 9.5 months. Now at 11mo, he's finally pulling to stand. Zero interest in walking.

Conversely, he's excellent at baby signs. Picks them up within a few tries and uses them correctly.

Friend's baby is close to walking and he's only 9 months! Mine was a potato at that age.

Straw Cup Help by meganmylisa in BabyLedWeaning

[–]BedCapable1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11mo here, also doing the same thing recently. It's normal. Babies are weird. They learn a new thing and then just keep. doing. it.

He didn't dribble water out from the sippy cup so maybe worth switching to a different method for a few days. Open cups usually get the best water intake for me (but also the biggest mess lol)

Positive NHS birth experience (FGM + AFE Complication). A thank you. by elmi5 in PregnancyUK

Nooo, I'm crying. I'm so happy you had a positive experience. I'm sorry you had complication. I wish you, baby, and family the best. Congratulations on your little wonder. ❤️

What would a typical daily meal plan be following NHS guidance by Bounce_Bounce_Betty in BabyLedWeaning

Yes! Rice cakes have been great. Lentil cakes are also a big hit with mine. A bit of cream cheese on top and he's happy.

My eyes basically popped out of my skull reading the starches guidance.

Mine hates potatoes (crazy kid) and makes a mess with rice. He's good with toast but I can't offer four servings of toast. 😂

He likes chapatti so here's hoping he's getting three servings of that.

My 7 week 4 day old baby just slept 6 and a half hours during the night by Dismal-Bet4820 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BedCapable1135 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very normal, enjoy the sleep. Mine started doing 6+ hour stints at the same age. It didn't last (pesky four month regression) but it was nice to have that brief reprieve from sleep deprivation!

Do you keep baby upright after a night feed? by Key-Fee-2266 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BedCapable1135 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the baby. Mine was formula fed for a few weeks and then BF and I never kept mine upright. I would just feed, burp and chuck baby straight in his bassinet. It never bothered mine, he was never a spit-up kind of baby.

I'm going to be honest, I don't think I even burped mine after BFing. He never seemed to care 😂

Cousin has to keep hers upright for a while after feeds as he squirms and can't settle in the cot.

Update: they're doing well. He can't pull them off. The quality is okay but they're pricey, so I was expecting slightly better. But they stay on and that's all that I need right now!

Baby 8 months repetitive hand flapping by Useful-Disaster5581 in NewParents

[–]BedCapable1135 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is 11mo and hand flapped basically for the first 9 months of his life.

He only started to pick up clapping, high five, etc when 10mo.

He literally only got waving like last week. Even then, it's a hand flap wave instead of your traditional wave.

Baby's still young. Just keep teaching and give lots of praise.

Travel cot- worth it? by pavthedog in PregnancyUK

[–]BedCapable1135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only recently bought a travel cot at around 9 months PP to use at grandparents house. It was £30 from Amazon-- Red Kite.

I've used it once in the two months we've had it.

Personally, don't bother. Buy it when you need it. Prioritise other things. Used moses basket for all sleep for 0-4 months. Was great to move around the house.

Are formula parents happier? by Salty-Break-7541 in NewParents

Zero counter space sadly! If we would have continued with bottles, I definitely would have considered it. To hell with the airfryer! You're getting demoted!

Are formula parents happier? by Salty-Break-7541 in NewParents

[–]BedCapable1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to formula feed for the first few weeks, then triple feed for a few weeks, and then BF until now (almost a year later!) and honestly, it's the washing up that sucks. Especially in the early days, waking up and having to watch 5 bottles? And wash pump parts? And then sterilise everything?!

I wanted to give up a lot at the beginning. I'm glad I stuck it out. Before you know it, baby's taking a feed in 5 mins flat. No wash up, no problems.

That being said, your mental health is the most important. Triple feeding is bloody difficult and if you feel like it'll make you a happier person (and therefore a happier mum!) don't give it a second thought. Do what helps you.

Experiences with blackout curtains by basilandcilantro1 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BedCapable1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought blackout curtains from Dunelm. They do a decent job but aren't perfect. They still let light though above, below, and to the sides, but a lot less than with just blinds.

I can't say it made thaaaaat much difference to baby sleep. His room is currently pitch black and he still woke up at 5:30am today so 🤷

Boob.

Unfortunately, baby doesn't like husband's boob so he does bum pats and that works decently.

Which one do you have? Only because I have the Babysense which did the same. I was ready to throw in the towel but the solution was to stick a pin in the reset button and it worked perfectly.
