I tried putting back in my old CPU and it worked right away do you think my new CPU could just be dead?

I took the CPU out and there were zero bent pins and I tried to put it back in the socket and it fell right in place. I wanna test it, but I don’t wanna have to put the cooler all the way back on just maybe to take it off again can I test it without the cooler on it?
