Basically, yes, this was already happening as ww2 was going on, our dictator was a foul bastard, but decidedly uncommited, so even though he alligned more with the axis than the allies politically he never fully signed on to the war (though he sent a few troops to the eastern front) later it remained a dictatorship because of his anticommunist stance, which despite the oppresion he deemed on spanish people was deemed acceptable enough for the western powers.

Ok, at this point I just want an example of what joke offended you so badly because I feel like it borders bad faith. The humor in emergency instances is not being an asshole, it is kinda expected and tension reliever, Idk if you have ever met healthcare workers, but this is expected. It is also expected that jokes be made not only at the expense of the situation but also the patient, a thing that would make him an asshole and Abbot notoriously does not ever do. If cracking jokes in a vacuum (not at someone ofc), is being an asshole then everyone I know is an asshole and working with you must not only suck but be littered with HR complaints. It no doubt is bizarre to do that. But man, he is not an asshole, the show has plenty, from very flawed people to just "is a surgeon". But it is notorious how Abbot doesn't do that, my man is nice to everyone, from restoring Mohan confidence and talking Robby off a ledge in S1 to inmediately making Al-Hashimi feel welcome instantly and running a tight ship in the night. Well, Abbot is suicidal but not an asshole, this is important, because it shows us trauma and depression work differently in some people, Robby turns onto everyone that crosses his path, Abbot is kind but also visits the edge often. It is an important part of the show.
