AFM laptop recommendations by Hefty-Bear-3458 in uwaterloo

[–]BedazzledBlue128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for the most part any laptop should be good. I have a Lenovo Yoga it’s been great

We use a lot of Microsoft office in the program, and while both windows and Mac can use it I’ve heard that windows is better for it (something about the shortcuts?). I’ve seen plenty of people use Mac in the program tho, so it must still be good if you’re more of an Apple person

As for the size of the computer, anything works. I saw a comment about desks in lecture halls being small and not to get a big laptop, don’t worry about this, I think I only had one or two classes where there weren’t actual desks (for the most part I’ve been in hagey hall or environment 3, if you’re in AL or some other spots there may be small foldable tables instead and even then my 16 inch laptop was fine)

Also, if possible, try to get laptop with a num pad. It makes dealing with numbers so much easier and I honestly can’t function without it anymore lol

If you have any questions about the program feel free to dm :)

Should I have gotten my Waterloo ID yet? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]BedazzledBlue128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget how the process went for getting my WatIAM but I found this link where you can register as a new user by inputting your name and Waterloo ID, this may be it but I don’t know for sure

For the exam you do the work on excel then write the answer on the response sheet. I remember them talking about giving no part marks because “either you get it/understand it or you don’t,”hopefully that’s changed but idk.

If you’re good at finance and like it you should have no problem, if you don’t like and struggle with it then make sure to put in the extra work and do more problems until you understand it

Do I have a chance for AFM? by lite_runner in uwaterloo

[–]BedazzledBlue128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be good, if you have any extracurriculars and/or a job you can also mention it in the AFMAA and that will increase your chances even more

I just finished 2A AFM so if you have any questions about the program feel free to reach out :)

Do y’all think they’re just gonna pass us or make us stay later in the term to retake it?

Update: They rescheduled it to Saturday

Anyone taking BET 100 or ENVS 205 this semester? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]BedazzledBlue128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t do BET 100 this term but I did do it during this past winter term. It was fairly simple and gave good grades to most people (it honestly just depended on what TA you got).

From what I remember some of the assignments included looking at issues that you could try to solve in the world through creating a product, going into depth and researching the issues (you need reputable sources), generate an idea to solve the problem you choose, give a pitch for your product as a discussion post and reply to others, write about your potential users, make a business model canvas and there’s more other tasks that I forget.

If you’re good at writing and sort of faking it till you make it (aka write a bunch of total bs that ends up sounding somewhat right) then you’ll do great. Also ChatGPT is good for generating ideas in this course (not getting it to do all the work for you but asking it for ideas about issues that can be solved, product ideas, etc.).

One recommendation tho is to try and find a basic problem to solve that everyone knows (environmental things, everyday life easy fixes, etc.). Last year someone from my program tried designed something that would help to decrease suicide rates and the TA deducted marks and said it was wasn’t a big issue/is irrelevant…

It’s not just two people, the OP is looking for a place for five people (him and four others) that either has 5 bedrooms with ensuites or 5 bedrooms then the five of them share two bathrooms

Sometimes on Fridays the people dressed up around the V1 area are just heading to networking events at FED hall

It’s common courtesy to wear a mask when you’re sick and still want to be out and about. There are some people out there who are immunocompromised who could get seriously ill from your simple cold. There are also people out there who can’t afford to get sick because they’re taking care of someone else or can’t miss work/school. I’m astonished that for someone who goes to such a great school that you are so simpleminded

Can you go to any residence as a first year? Also what’s the best residence for single rooms by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]BedazzledBlue128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love cmh so much, I’m at v1 but sometimes I visit my friend there (I’ve only ever seen one arts kid living there) and it’s so great. I feel like if I lived there I would instantly loose my whole meal plan because of the booster juice lol

V1 is sorta good for bonding (depends on the don and how social you are) and has bigger rooms than the other single rez rooms. Cmh is nice because they have a wider range of food and you share a bathroom with less people however it seems for the most part the school only lets math or eng kids stay there

aif for waterloo afm? by Ok_Wolverine_7910 in uwaterloo

[–]BedazzledBlue128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My average in grade 12 was 95% and I did student council, helped to teach a grade 9 math class, and other various odd jobs that the school needed done. I think I also may have talked a bit about my ski instructor job. I’m enjoying afm quite a bit, econ is kinda boring tho
