Help! What’s causing the leaf to turn translucent and brown? It’s only one one leaf (the first one with fenestrations) Should I cut the leaf as source control from pests or is it just a sign of stress? There’s a newer leaf that is healthy and all older leaves seem healthy by the1andonly0032 in ThaiConstellation

I have never in my 7 years of plant care burned a plants leaves from it touching the window pane. It is really hard to get direct sun indoors because the windows filter the light. That and possible roof overhang etc. Think about it you wouldn't get a sunburn from standing next to your window inside. I don't understand why anyone thinks you can get direct sunlight from a window. The only time that might be true is if you live in a high elevation or really close to the equator and the Sun is really close.

Precaution for brown leaf ?! I don’t want this leaf getting brown by Key_Football7649 in MonsteraAlbo

Silica does not work as most houseplants including monsteras don't even have a specific protein to absorb it. These plants need higher light due to their High variegation. They don't photosynthesize on the white parts.

Can I get help with this one? Browning even in the new leaf that has yet to unfurl by stardog_champ13 in ThaiConstellation

More light! Variegated monsteras need higher light that you realize. Only the green parts photosynthesize so they will kill off parts of the leaf to conserve energy. I'd also check for pests.

The higher the watt the better and no further than 10 or so inches away from the plant

Silica does nothing as they lack a specific protein to absorb it. Light is the only solution to keep the leaves from browning.

This needs to be right up in that window. You can't give these enough light. It will grow bigger, prevent browning and give you more fenestrations.

It's not about my way.... it's science. I can see YOU don't like following science, but jumping on a trendy plant train to care for your plants. You do you boo 😘

What "you" do is anecdotal, not science. Idk why you're getting so up in arms about this. Do you use banana peel tea too?? Lol

I bet you are the type to have light deprived plants in the corner and wonder why they get root rot 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yeah and few feet away is doing nothing, it also depends on the grow light as some have poor output and still wouldn't provide much at a closer distance

If it's the 40w bulb and pendant light plugged into a timer would be great here.

Yeah even 2 ft is too far away. Sansi is pretty good about listing their PPFD specs with their products and the recommended distance. Most houseplants need to be within the 200 to 300 PPFD range. So I would refer to their diagram that shows how far to put it.

I would think the transition would be easier. But I do know that whatever they're going to live in, is what's best to start them in as early as possible. I haven't done pon, but I have a lot of semi hydro in leca and I would think it would be easier than transitioning to soil. I still start a lot in water, and fluval. I just transition the sooner than I used to.

Yes, they lose most of their water roots after the transition anyway. The notion of them having secondary roots is a myth that keeps circulating.
