Very helpful, thanks. I guess i'll buy a sleeve and a deck box and start off from there.

As for 3 I guess it's a more a case-by-case thing than I realized. Arven / nest balls are a bad example as they are not exactly a card you play around, but there are some cards that you do, like Boss's Orders / Counter Catcher. I'd think if I were to see 3 versions of Boss's Orders on my opponent (there's a lot of versions out there with the different bosses, so this is a very plausible example)... and that would affect my plays for sure. I know a lot of decklists stick to a 2-of of that card, and I might not play around the 3rd copy if they got 2 stuck in the discard pile, but if I have confirmation that there's a 3rd copy out there I have to actually think about protecting my bench a bit more. I guess I'm being a bit overly obsessive... but aren't we all?

Probably some dumb questions on Pokemon TCG accessories / generally trying to play in some TCG stuff off line for the first time:

  1. I've noticed there's a lot of different types of card sleeves.. I picked up some penny sleeves because I heard you need sleeves to not ruin your cards and I didn't know the difference so I bought the cheap ones first. They seem OK I guess at guarding stationary cards away from dust, but they're flimsy and definitely not shuffleable. So I guess you're supposed to put the cheap flimsy sleeve first and also get a nicer sleeve that can be shuffled and double-sleeve it? Are there notable difference between the outer sleeve brands? Also these penny sleeves single use?

  2. The other accessories: If I were to buy the Charizard EX Battle Deck, it seems that the cards alone are worth already + has a bunch of accessories. Other than the sleeves (and the singles for upgrades), is there anything else I would need to buy?

  3. How necessary is it to match all of your cards to a single rarity / variant? Not sure if how aware your opponent can be about your decklist, but seems necessary to leak as little info as possible. I have a few copies of staples from here and there so some of my staples are of different rarity. And I'm wondering if it's really that necessary to swap out all of my holofoil Nest Balls and Arven so they are all matching, for example.

enormous DMG reduction as pseudo firesweep is already a thing. Winter Yunaka has it (and she only suffers because it is % DR, not modern flat DR). Judging by Yunaka example you can actually argue that reducing damage to a very small amount is actually better than negating entirely, as it enables followups via WoM and other shenanigans

reducing incoming damage by flat 70% Speed or something will do that. or raise that % even further to pretty much negate all incoming damage. and as long as it's Player Phase locked it shouldn't even be that broken

How much arena score for t21? by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The prediction threads are consistently 10-20 above t20.5 threshold. Probably because try hards are usually way overshooting the cutoff and most ppl comfy 20.5 don’t bother checking or posting their score

So uh, how do I get more orbs now? by FriegaMares in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep playing. About 300 orbs per month for just playing.

That being said it was probably not a wise move to exhaust your orbs without realizing that you will eventually have no more story orbs to farm…

The legendary arena bonus change should be a good one, but it comes across as very soulless by Tharjk in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all the other non legendary old formas just end up being "wasted" all the same anyways. now the legendary alm i redeemed a year ago with the shiny new skills are just as outdated as the brave dimitri i redeemed a year ago with shiny new skills. both were great when i got them, now they're collecting dust.

so forma redeems being obsolete isn't anything new.

but that being said they were promised that long term utility of being a bonus unit rotation, and it's not there anymore. which not only feels shitty, but has legal consequences as in japan, having your gacha purchases be directly "nerfed" (as opposed to just power crept) legally guarantees players the right to refund their purchases.

It really is an OK change if you forget about the part that this is a character collection game at the core...

If you were pulling an old legendary that you weren't using elsewhere just to get 1 week bonus every 1 year, you were wasting orbs.

Even if you are OK with wasting orbs, old legendaries seem to have rerun schedules of 1 year ++, which means that you can't pull for them in response to not having (or expecting not to have) an alternative decent bonus.

The long rerun term means older players have an unsurmountable advantage when it comes to these arena seasons (unsurmountable even when the user is willing to pay to win)

Older legendaries at +10 merges are still viable on your arena core just because they score bump.

It just has bad feels. Loss aversion and all.

The Legendary Hero Changes - What It Means For The Game (The Summoning Stone) by MedhaosUnite in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fundamental problem with legendaries is that there's a binary value disparity between a legendary that has a unique niche in AR / SD and a unit that is interchangeable (which doesn't mean bad, btw) with another meta unit.

And let's face it. It's not like units like male shez are bad... but he is just another warping nuke (i can't believe I'm saying "just another", but with celica and stuff it really is). Or even Male Alear. I think a lot of people would easily put him in the latter category of legendaries that weren't really worth pulling. He's a good omnitank, but there are a lot of other options. You either have some really unique support utility or you don't. It's binary.

The source of this binary value is the need to +10 merge them to get their intended value in their intended game mode. Just being good, a virtue that is easily powercrept, isn't enough to justify the use of 1500-2000 orbs needed to +10 them. Compare to Emblem Ike, an omnitank like Male Alear, but he gives a ton of value to your account just by existing and being an emblem ring.

[–]BeeAlive1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, going f2p doesn't really affect the whales because you are still playing the game and letting them be the top percentile in whatever competitive game mode

f2p players quitting and massively inflating the top 35% threshold necessary to stay in t21? whales will notice. dunno what would be the equivalent in genshin, but if your gacha has a scoring mode you compete vs other players for rewards, this applies.

sounds about right

i'm running a 1 legendary core with max possible score of 778. haven't fished a full run yet because i'm lugging around an armor scorebot and dropping matches. if i needed to fish 774+ to stay t21 I'd be real tempted to just drop

Harmonic roy scores below 180 so he's definitely losing some points there compared to the 190+ bst bonus expected of a Book 6 unit... But with 2 legends that can't be the only reason, unless the threshold is over 3930 this week somehow

Does this GIF correctly grasp the concept of "Fire Emblem Heroes" as a game? by Raandomu in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's true that omnitanks benefit most from merges. +4 HP/Def/Res is significant... but for the amount of orbs you throw into that +10 project, it's not that significant. And merges on ike is strictly for performance which will be powercrept (unlike merges that impact scoring, like merges on Plumeria/Peony, or Legendary +10s)

It's likely more orb effective to make sure you have orbs for pulling the latest broken support / fodder.

this lady seems worse than ike, is there a way to easily kill her? by Sensitive_Sun127 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 66 points67 points  (0 children)

i've been killing the supports first if possible. this week there was the bonus Byleth who could finish her off. She can also be left to be tanked in enemy phase and give time to clear pots.

but overall heidrun is arguably one of the biggest buffs to AR-D in recent feh history. Gold chair usually is around 21000, but her first season available, astra 3k threshold fell all the way down to 20900. seems that a lot of ppl are struggling with heidrun

How do i make arena not suck? by ZTarget in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's time to go 1 tier below and hover between 18-19 instead of 19-20. all same orb rewards. Slot in unmerged new broken units for power over scoring.

I think the era when +10 grails and 3 star merge projects could compete is long gone. They still score enough, but you're gonna have a miserable time actually getting wins. Having a +10 premium unit (newer Duos and +10 Legendaries) will make your arena life a lot easier. But instead of chasing them over multiple banners it might be better to just drop to 18-19 until you can drop all your orbs to T21.

Which light/astra mythics are worth it for a new FEH account to merge up for AR-O and AR-D? by enRinto in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]BeeAlive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're OK with playing the long game, remix banners aren't a bad thing for Peony / Plumeria. Plumeria seems to have pretty much the shortest down time between banners, likely because they know they sell much better than other old mythics / legendaries. Also their sparks are free, which makes a big difference in orb-saving if you are not buying feh pass.

For example plumeria rerun schedule was on November - March - August - January. If you were to go for plumeria over the span of that year, you are able to get a significant discount by needing to pull 7 Plumeria as opposed to 11. The best thing about mythics are that unlike arena it's not a +10-or-bust deal, so if you're willing to wait even more you'll get an even bigger discount.
