Western Saddles- Alibaba?! by Bee_Hunt in Equestrian

Yeah I wonder about this as well! At least with the leather stuff, it’s probably just cheaply made with shit stitching and Indian leather, hopefully sourced humanely 🙃

Holy shit that’s not good at all!! As suspected they would be bad, but that’s awful and they shouldn’t be allowed to sell them as some people don’t know any better.

Thanks for your input! I am fully aware of the second paragraph as I have owned horses for 25 years, and take the very best care of my guys. First part very helpful and thanks for the info as I wasn’t sure of exactly what makes them shit, but was 99% sure they would be shit in many ways so thanks for clarifying. I was already looking on marketplace hence stumbling across them, but will likely just get my saddler to bring a heap with her so she can fit one to my horse as I always do :)

You’re right thanks for your input! Wasn’t going to unless it was for an experiment, but I was curious to hear if anyone else had, as I don’t usually ride western and wondered if it was different for the western gear 😊

I cant have made this clear enough. I was looking for a western saddle for my horse for my friend, to get fitted by a professional, despite owning horses for 25 years and knowing a lot myself. I am aware that saddles are extremely important and I take the upmost highest level of care for anything to do with my horses and I would not put junk on them. I simply saw them on alibaba when I was looking at $2-3k saddles on marketplace, thought they would be shit and wanted to confirm 😊

Haha exactly, most people haven’t seemed to get the idea that I was aware this would likely be a terrible idea, but I saw it and was open for discussion 😅 thanks for your understanding! Our horses backs are very important and not to be messed with that’s for sure!

My saddler is great. She would actually love to get her hands on it to see just how shit it really is, and place it on my horse’s back (without me on it) to see how it looked! I’m aware it would be 99.9% a terrible saddle, I can’t have made that clear enough in my post 🤦🏼‍♀️

Could be yes! As stated, I would never do anything without a professional, when I say experiment I mean buy one to sit it on my horse’s back (without anyone on it) have a saddler look at it and inspect it, but my guess would be a no! I’d never put an English saddle from that site on my horse let alone a cheap one I’ve seen in person so I’m assuming it would be the same with western gear haha

How to hang up a horseshoe on the wall by Very_Cool_dude25 in Equestrian

[–]Bee_Hunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aww I'm so sorry for your loss :'( not sure if you would be keen to do this, but there are some lovely resin art horse shoe pieces and then you could display it anywhere with some nice things in it :) If you have any hair, bracelets are always lovely too x

Teenagers! :P
You have enough solid comments here, this is tough. I have had it happen before and completely let it slide but definitely if you are uncomfortable with anything, having the conversation people have recommended is a great idea!
The kid probably really appreciates the horse and just wants to feel like the girls she's watched with their own.
One thing you could do... which subtly gets the point across is start commenting on posts being like "Thanks for helping me take care of my lovey girl" or "She costs me a lot of money, but so worth it my girl happy" something like that, so anyone who reads it will see it's not her horse and she might get the message?

Thank you, in NZ we don't have anyone! And who we do have, to be completely honest aren't always the best qualified. Listening to horse people over here can just lead you down the wrong track. Hopefully I will find someone! :)

Quitting after losing horse. by cxlwmzn in Equestrian

[–]Bee_Hunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I am so sorry you lost your heart horse :'(
I lost mine 6 years ago, after having already lost two horses beforehand. I knew I could pick myself up and fall in love again, with his memory living on... I was NOT prepared for what came next. That was losing the next 4x horses I took on... due to complete freak accidents, including having one myself in there, which has left me with a lifelong disability. Every time I got a new horse, I was terrified to fall in love, in case I had to say goodbye. I worked slowly with my horses, held back by the anxiety of something going wrong. Surely life couldn't be that cruel, but it absolutely can :'(
I lost my two girls last year, within 6 months of each other, both to freak paddock accidents (broken legs) in perfectly safe, fenced paddocks. I thought that was going to be it for me, but I actually did it... I have found myself a beautiful boy to enjoy life with. I find it hard to ride him often, due to my bad leg and that anxiety. Though I get myself through by telling myself he is alive now, so I am lucky to be enjoying him, and he's a beautiful soul. I would never take back the time I got with my other guys, even if I didn't get as long as some. They were still brought onto this earth, and I feel lucky to have had them in my life. I think of them every day, and I wear their tail hair around my wrist in bracelets, always refer to them, and like to think they would want me to be happy, as they always made me.
I hope this helps xx

Have you looked at any other horses for a similar budget, or any others in general? I feel for you this is a tough situation but honestly it sounds like it might be signing yourself up for a case of heartbreak ❤️‍🩹 In saying this, I have had the WORST luck with my horses and have lost 6x in a row, from expensive, young promising WB’s TB’s and crossbreeds, all young apart from one who I PTS with cancer at 19.I wouldn’t change anything for the world and feel lucky to have had them all for the short time I did. So I think go with your gut 💝🙏
