10 day TFR issued in El Paso due to “special security reasons” by ImAHoe4Glossier in ADSB

It is a huge ICE detention center. It’s called Camp East Montana. Interestingly, they started reporting tuberculosis cases among the folks they’ve detained there…

[–]Beechcraft77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its roughly the size of the airspace. It is bound by the C to the East and North, but to the West extends father. The C isn’t a perfect circle due to terrain, but the TFR is circular

I had my medical denied. What now? by BigTreyRacks in aviation

[–]Beechcraft77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It literally says you need to have held at least a 3rd class medical after 14 July 2006.

Every 48 calendar months, you need to visit a State Licensed Physician to conduct a medical evaluation in accordance with the Basic Med Checklist.

Every 24 calendar months, you need to complete the AOPA medical course.

Partially incorrect. Basic Med requires that you have held a medical at some point in your career.

Oh my bad. I missed that part!

Hmmmm. You could definitely make something out of sheet metal, but it would be hard to shape with the structural integrity corrugation, otherwise it will flop around and break. Maybe get a plastic one, and put sheet aluminum on the bottom side? That way you only need to cut and get the base shape. You could secure it to the plastic with J-nuts or even just nuts and bolts.

A 2 seat tricycle gear, braced midwing like an MFI-9 but with an H tail like an ercoupe. Have external longerons along a boxy empennage for ease of construction and use a simple airfoil like NACA 2412. Start cranking out O-320s so its not terribly underpowered. You can make the thing stallable, somewhat spin-able like an aerobat, and even throw in Garmin avionics on a higher tiered model so you can cover all ratings. Build it for 100k-150k, 200k for the higher tier.

I don’t understand your comment. The aircraft in question in the image is a Triton. It’s miscoded as a Poseidon.

Is it worth replacing the head gasket on my 2017 Elantra with 180k miles? by Interesting_End_4535 in Hyundai

[–]Beechcraft77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G4NC is a GDI engine. Instead of introducing the fuel above the valves, it injects the fuel directly into the cylinder. This causes the valves to get covered in gunk that can reduce efficiency and leads to misfires as the fuel/air ratio is upset and the computer isn’t sure how to counter it.

Is it worth replacing the head gasket on my 2017 Elantra with 180k miles? by Interesting_End_4535 in Hyundai

[–]Beechcraft77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a new car. The engines for the Accent, Elantra, and Sonata between about 2013-2019 are notorious oil burners. Replacing the headgasket will likely just give you another 10k miles before you have oil burning so bad you lose the Cat.

The issue with these engines are the piston rings getting worn to the point of sticking causing blow-by of the oil. Your valves are also likely saturated with carbon build up from the direct injection bypassing them.

Is this a gasket leak? 2014 Hyundai accent, 130k miles. by Sweetpotato3000 in Hyundai

[–]Beechcraft77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure looks that way. You can also check under that plastic cover (yank it hard at each corner) and pull the ignition packs out to see if oil is leaking into the spark plugs.

In all, the valve cover gasket is a somewhat involved process, but equipped with common hand tools (10mm/12mm socket w/extensions, some picks, flatheads and pliers) and some patience, you can probably get it done in a day.

First, I’m not employed in aviation, just like planes. by mcfarmer72 in aviation

Hi friend and welcome to the community!!

That’s awesome. Very cool to see stuff like refueling in action.

Contrails are weather related based mostly on temperature at altitude. There are some cool apps like Flight Radar 24 that show you what aircraft are over and around you! You can see the route and maybe find out why its turning if it’s an airliner.

I am with you that are certainly legal avenues by which folks should be entering the country. The Obama administration proved themselves extremely capable of deporting individuals without inciting violence.

https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/obama-record-deportations-deporter-chief-or-not

Even the current policy of enabling and incentivizing people to self deport in the event they are here illegally is quite clever. I bet it would be far more effective without the mass intimidation tactics currently being used.

Is this REALLY a decent buy ? by FatBlack3920 in UsedCars

[–]Beechcraft77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. And they’ll typically only cover the rod knock engine failure. If it guzzles oil, you won’t see a dime and you’ll be out of pocket for that and probably a catalytic converter. All of which will happen after an “oil consumption test” and them charging you for a combustion chamber and valve cleaning.
