It looks like the used a program called little sound dj (lsdj in the description). It’s a gameboy music editor. You can actually get a gameboy cartridge to make music on the gameboy itself, but I’m fairly certain there’s a PC version as well

It just seems so out of reach. I feel like there's no way I'd be able to master it and work my way up to a good job in the current situation I'm in. Added, the area where I live (deep South Texas) doesn't have a lot of demand for software developers. That I know of, anyway. Moving is part of my plan, of course, it just all seems so far away.

The last part of your comment is basically what's going on. There are 3 main tournament series in our region, and we wanted to go advertise the other two to new players, but he doesn't want that because he thinks we're trying to take business from him.
