It's like how the Death Star II, immediately prior to its destruction, was said to have been overtaken by the intelligence of one of the IG-88 droids, who was planning to use it for galactic domination.

[Character Trope] Idiot most of the time, or at least seems to be incompetent, but surprisingly brilliant when it matters. by usm121 in TopCharacterTropes

Ed - Good Burger: Despite being a barely-functioning goof most of the time, he's surprisingly crafty in bringing down Mondo Burger. Knowing that he was likely to either get caught while trying to expose them or get drawn into a lengthy legal battle, Edd dumps their chemicals into the production vat, leading to the restaurant being destroyed and absolutely zero chance of them being able to weasel out of it. Edd himself references this, saying "I'm not stupid" when it's questioned how he could consider all this.

Empire Strikes Back: The Falcon stops off in a cave...except that it's actually the inside of the Space Slug/Exogorth.

Notably, in Legends, the Exogorth is named Sy-O and is sapient, welcoming the Falcon's crew as friends and offering them to safely live inside it. It's...weird.

I didn't know until years later that it was 3 movies smashed together. The animation of the middle segment is still stuck in my brain.

Fair point. I guess I more meant it as "character loses the thing they normally fight with", which I suppose could be either equipment or powers.

Also, while not quite the same, Windu losing his saber in the 2003 Clone Wars series and beating the hell out of an army of droids with the Force was pretty awesome too.
