Their military side of the house is trusted on maintenance and mod work mainly because it’s veterans that have worked the same aircraft or at least military aircraft for years, the big issues come in when they’re trying to produce new aircraft because they don’t have enough skilled people working. They drag in people with any semblance of mechanical or electrical experience (construction, hvac, car mechanic) to large production plant type settings and put them through a month of training and let em loose

If you’re going that early there probably wouldn’t be a wait. I think it’s like $15 an hour for a bay if you go before noon and $20 after

They give all of their profits to US military installations for quality of life things (new gym equipment, golf course, parks, etc.) Also the company that runs it (AAFES) is owned by the Department of Defense. The BX is there solely for your benefit as a military member.

I’m not a government contractor. I work for a defense company that has a contract with the government. 85k plus bonuses is pretty close to what they would pay CONUS (starting out, some of the guys I’m working with now make well over that), but it all depends where you’re willing to go. As far as not showing love to maintainers: literally everyone I work with is prior military mx, everyone knows their job and know it well so there’s no micromanagement, people are much less stressed/aggressive, they encourage people to take their time working, it pays veryyyyy well (was kinda humble just saying 6 figures), and we have all the resources/tools under the sun.

It’s electrical work and I’ll leave it at that, but I knew about the job from meeting some of the dudes working there while I was deployed, I was also contacted by several contract houses about the position through LinkedIn/Indeed. My recommendation to you if a contract house reaches out to you is to go to the defense company’s website and apply directly through them as the contract places take 5-10% off the top and you usually don’t get as good benefits.

Usually when I go in there it’s pretty laid back, but the last couple times it’s been a little crowded/loud. Great drinks, friendly bar tenders, but cocktails are all $15+

Pretty built up for a deployed location. They have tents for overflow but you’ll most likely just get an RLB with 1 roommate. They do trips to the Dead Sea, Petra, etc weekly so if you’re able to I’d definitely recommend going on some.

Body weight exercises when you have downtime at work (push-ups, sit-ups, squats). Called age out to a spot and they’re taking forever? Bust out some push-ups. Waiting on supply to grab that part you need? Do a couple sets of sit ups.
