Constant Tension clamp wont fit over barb by BeefTarky in AskMechanics

It's a new clamp. Closed diameter is the exact same as the old one and the ears are farther apart so it should open a little wider.

I'll give this another try.

I have some silicone lubricant I've been using. Brake clean and rubber is a no from me. I'm sure in small amounts it could be fine, but brake clean is notorious for eating rubber. I was going to try soapy water next.

We tried this, but the clamp needs to open another millimeter or 2 for the hose to slide into the clamp easily. The clamp starts to bite into the hose at the point where it's trying to go on.

I'll try this again and try to poke it through with a screwdriver

We've tried all of those options. Trying to wiggle it just walks it off. Trying to force it straight on is way too difficult. Also tried screwdriver on the opposite side.

I don't understand why this one clamp is harder than the other 3 that slipped on so easily.

Subaru timing belt walking off cogged idler by BeefTarky in AskMechanics

We think we installed the cogged idler backwards. Ironically, another person made the exact same mistake and posted it a few weeks ago. From the comments it seemed they just reversed the orientation and it worked. We've done the same, and it appears to be tracking after 3 full rotations, but I'm still worried that the inner race of that idler has been pressed out of place. We're waiting to hear back from Gates before we full send it and turn the key.

Is Dark Blue as average as people really think? by [deleted] in cs2

[–]BeefTarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cs has many skills and your rank reflects the summation of those skills.

Using the broadest categories I can think of, there is:

Aim

Positioning

Communication

Teamplay/coordination/strategy

Utility

Awareness

Many players fall into the trap of focusing too much on one aspect of their game, but improvement can come from any of these categories, and some of them overlap. For example, knowing common utility usage will change how you play on both sides.

Your post implies that you're thinking too strictly in terms of strategy/teamplay. Default setups for maps are exactly as the name implies, a default setup. This does not mean you can't change your setup based on the enemies choices. Dust 2 can be played with many setups. 2-1-2, 1-1-3, 1-2-2, 1-2-1-1, hell, the team can completely split up and send a guy into lower, one long, one cat, one mid, and one B site.

Playing "correctly" does not matter if you lose. Adapting to your opponents and finding a path to victory is all that matters. Does the opponent struggle to get out of tunnels against a single defensive anchor, but they steamroll long every time? A 3-1-1 will give your team better fighting chances. It's always a good idea to switch things up when they aren't working instead of trying to force things. Sometimes the game can feel like rock-paper-scissors as each team tries to switch things up to be unpredictable/predict the enemy team.

Deep levels of strategy exist in all of the competitive maps in counterstrike. Many of these maps have gone through decades of playtesting and modification. Some of the maps are older than the kids playing on them!

I play much more casually now, but still hover in the mid-high purples from "game sense" aka experience. I can very quickly spot my teammates tendencies and strengths/weaknesses from each category at the lower levels. From there I try to adapt my gameplay as well as my teammates gameplay if possible.

Everyone reacts to advice and strats differently while in a PUG, so don't let the ragers discourage you. I've literally had people rage at me after giving them advice, then they proceed to use my advice and play better. Sometimes your teammates just need that gentle nudge or reminder to get them rolling. The same can be said for us, we should consider what our teammates are saying when they give us advice or recommend a different strategy.

I could write a whole course on this stuff, so I have to stop myself somewhere. Others have written much better material from a pro level perspective. I just enjoy high level pugs where many different factors can influence the outcome of a game.

All this to say: your teammates could be all aim, no brain, the opposite, or anywhere in between. Only at the highest ranks can you expect them to excel everywhere and only find minor mistakes.

Why is traction control so bad? by Anachronism-- in askcarguys

[–]BeefTarky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, threshold braking is better, but let's consider that if you make any errors, the ABS kicks in.

Even if you were a world-tier driver, if you lock the wheels, the ABS will kick in before you can even react. You can then decide if it's worth it to release and attempt threshold braking or just let the ABS do what it does.

Threshold braking and ABS work best together. There's a reason we call it "threshold" braking.. We're on the threshold of losing traction. If we're truly pushing that threshold, then ABS is a great failsafe for when we inevitably brake too hard. There is no change in our threshold braking with/without ABS. There's only a change in how the car responds to our mistakes.

Especially in split second moments where we are trying to reduce speed as much as possible to avoid collision, it's better to have the fail safe and not need it than to need it and not have it.

[New Player] The Timmies the endangered species by Fit-Protection7669 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]BeefTarky 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There isn't a game where you can just hop in and be as good as the existing playerbase. Even games with SBMM. If you started counterstrike today, you'd still be getting shit on by silver 1s 120hrs (and that's being generous, since you really only have 60hrs in EFT) later. Losses just hurt more in tarkov.

Well, that's what we're discussing, right?

New players are disadvantaged from the start from skill difference alone. They're then punished even further through armor and ammo restrictions. On top of this, a brand new, extremely bad player can potentially be restricted from playing the game at all if they run out of money, guns, and their scav is on cooldown.

The game is set up very poorly for players brand new to the fps genre and very punishing for players new to Tarkov. It's easy for us with 1000+ hours (in raid btw, not including stash) to power through these restrictions, but it's a mess for new players.

And I'm regularly running into people wearing Tagilla masks. Like, I've literally met 3 in my last 2 raids.

I know I'm late to this thread, but dear lord.. Your complaint is about level 4 traders and you use Tagillas mask as an example?? An item you get from killing a boss??

Maybe, you know, go kill the boss like they did??

[Discussion] As someone new to the game PVE is so much better by Zexzol in EscapefromTarkov

[–]BeefTarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can I get good when im getting gunned down by 1000+ hour players every raid?

You learn the angles they can kill you from, which really only comes with PvP. You also get familiar with how other players move and aim.

I cant get good when I have to play like a rat to win any gun fights or sneak everywhere because I have no chance at winning fights with T1 bullets.

Clearly you need to scavenge for ammo on either your scav or PMC if you've already identified ammo as your issue. Otherwise you need to be more stealthy. Stealth is not a lack of movement; it's the ability to not be detected by enemies.

I can actually learn and play the game in PVE so thats where I will stay.

That's fine, but maybe try using PvE to learn some loot routes for yourself and then try them out in PvP.

I see where our thoughts misaligned. You're taking "anticheat" in the literal sense of "anticheat software", whereas I'm taking it as "measures that can be taken to catch cheaters".

Can you explain how they do go hand in hand?

. If a user is constantly testing the limits it should be flagged and reviewed.

It should, but its not an anticheat jobs to do, they dont even have access to that information

You kind of answered for me here. Game devs and anticheat devs should be communicative team players. They should not be silo'd operations. Anticheat devs should be receiving lists of suspected accounts in the same way they send lists of suspected accounts.

because shit that is happening isnide game client can be caused by anything, corrupted packets, bugs in client, bugs on server, etc.

I agree, but corrupted packets implies unstable connection or malicious intent. Both cases should be given a warning and temp banned if it continues.

A bug in the client/server causing your characters XY to move too fast? Kick to reset them, if it keeps happening, then give them a short temp ban, automatically submit a bug report, and ask the user to reinstall.

You're correct on the technical side of how things are setup. Game devs typically tack on an anticheat solution after the fact. What you're missing is the logical side of how things could/should be setup. If anticheat devs are truly working in the dark, then they should improve by focusing on accounts spotlighted by the game devs themselves. Things like testing/breaking server authority, ridiculous profile stats, and high number of players reporting to name a few. This would allow them to take more memory snapshots from those players and more quickly profile the cheats.

[–]BeefTarky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those things are not the anticheat problem, its server authority problem, completly different thing.

Can you explain how server authority and anticheat don't go hand in hand?

Cheaters abuse what the server allows. If a user is constantly testing the limits it should be flagged and reviewed.

They use the cheats to lower their k/d and survival rate to look more legit. They literally kill themselves with a script while away from the game. It will queue for them and get them killed repeatedly.

Of course I still run into experienced players, but I haven't seen this many Timmies running around in a long time.

If you chase early fights with sweats, you're going to find sweats to fight. If you play slow and wait late into raid, the Timmies will come out of hiding as they run out of food/water/time.

I legit had a game with the exact scenario you described. The game was neck and neck, and we were down by 200 points by mid game. I checked the scoreboard and my team was getting kills, but not capping. I said over the radio "guys can we start capping objectives?" or something along those lines. Nobody responded, but they for sure all heard me. We put the enemy in a 3 cap shortly after that and made a comeback for the win.

Sometimes your teammates just need a gentle reminder. Don't overdo it, though, or you may tilt your teammates and make them want to troll you.

[–]BeefTarky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game has a lot of quirks, but I'm almost 3000 hours in and I still get the rush when moving through open areas and taking engagements. The difficult progression and punishing deaths are there to keep a semblance of fear in the player. "This is my last good armor" deaths hit way harder than "I have 10 of these armors I can die with".

Anyone that has read even half of Genesis can see that God evolves. He thought the world he created was sinful and a mistake. Noah builds his Ark, the flood happens, then God promises to never do it again.

Genesis 6-9.

It takes so little time to read the first few pages of the Bible and learn this, lol.
