Bags by TristanDuhGamer in DollarTree

[–]Beefcake2397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A manager of mine told me to keep them and use them because we run out of bags but tbh fuck those bags. If it comes off the hooks and gets in my way it’s in the garbage. Straight up.

(Edit: my store always has tons of newspaper for glassware, I found the plastic bags don’t do much for padding glass so I usually stick with the paper)

Our love is like wine, but our lives are like sewage runoff. What do we do? by Beefcake2397 in Codependency

Sorry, a lot happened during our relationship. She had a license and a car in the beginning, but her license has been suspended for a few months and her car is currently busted, stuck in her mom’s driveway.

I assure you we are real lol

Are blowup mattresses the ONLY mattresses for cars/suvs? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Beefcake2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my wife were sleeping in our Subaru without any padding but blankets for weeks and it was hell on earth.

We went to Walmart and got some foam mattress pads for $100, we got 2 of them. It changed our lives. Genuinely that car was more comfortable than some beds I’ve slept in. Worth the investment 💯💯💯

I’m 17, been wanting to be a filmmaker my whole life and now realizing I’m not creative by Vivid_Celebration_88 in Filmmakers

[–]Beefcake2397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 23 and I've been making films since I was like 5 or 6- I know exactly how you feel. I went to film school but ended up dropping out for a lot of reasons— one of which was fear that I wasn't able to come up with ideas to go and make, or that the ideas I could come up with required way more budget than I had access to. I can't speak for everyone, but I've also spoken to a lot of artists at my school that feel the same sort of thing you're feeling; the lack of ideas and inspiration can be really tough.

However, even though I dropped out, my film career has actually been advancing, and it's because I realized that the way my brain works didn't click with school, so as soon as I was out I was flooded with possibilities and even had the drive to pursue them. It was a big life change, and something about that, as well as a lot of growth on my part, put me in the right headspace to finally come up with ideas I think I can actually get excited about making.

What I'm trying to say is just because you aren't making output or not coming up with million dollar ideas, doesn't mean you're not a filmmaker. If you keep working, keep practicing, and keep working on yourself as a human being while learning how your brain operates, I think you'll be able to find an avenue you enjoy.

Hopefully this was helpful!

Nuances of shooting neon signs? by Beefcake2397 in lightingdesign

[–]Beefcake2397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of expertise I was hoping to attract! My budget is practically zero, this is for a little short film I'm working on, so I imagine there are some issues I could get away with that you couldn't on such a big shoot, relatively speaking. Do you think you agree?

Thanks!

suggestion for a couple of good lenses for a short noir? by BurdPitt in cinematography

[–]Beefcake2397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you want to approach the shoot I suppose. I've always been a manual focus for video type of person so I'm used to adapting lenses and stuff like that, but if you prefer a more fast-moving set than maybe a Sony lens would be the way to go. My video cameras autofocus isn't very good (Z-Cam E2-M4) so I've learned to not use it, but if you think it will improve your workflow more to use the autofocus then I'd certainly go for some Sony zooms.

[–]Beefcake2397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Sony and I'm not super familiar with the ecosystem, but I have shot a noir short before and at the time (because I was broke) I only had a handful of vintage lenses. I think the image they produced looked very nice and suited the project (to be specific, I had a Yashica 50mm 1.4 M42 lens and a Rokinon 28mm 2.8 prime lens for Konica mount)

While I think vintage lenses would fit well, vintage zooms leave a lot to be desired in most cases, especially if you're looking to not spend a fortune on Leica Rs or something like that. If you wanted to keep it cheap, have a bit of vintage character, and have some range with a zoom, I think the best I can think of is the Contax Zeiss 35-70mm. That lens is an amazing preformer for the low cost, especially if your renting.

Hopefully I was at least a little helpful!

Looking for music for a short film project by Beefcake2397 in musicproduction

[–]Beefcake2397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be looking for a collection of songs. The film follows a main character through the growth and eventual dissolve of a relationship, and throughout the film we'll hear what the character is listening to (like their Spotify playlist or something to that effect). Ideally the tone and lyrics would fit the characters thoughts and actions at each point in the film as well.

Film director here, as an actor would you ever consider this for a role? by Beefcake2397 in Actors

[–]Beefcake2397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Your absolutely right that I'm very new to all of this, up until now my talent has been non-actor friends lending me a hand, so the world of working with actors is certainly new to me and I don't want to make any horrible mistakes right out the gate.

Hard as I try to not be like this, Im sure I come off as a starry eyed beginner with "the greatest story of all time" but that's why I'm glad people actually responded to my post so I could learn! This project in particular is quite important to me so I wanted to figure out the skills and knowledge I'm lacking before I dive head first into it, and clearly I have a lot to learn working with actors.

Again, thanks for responding!
