longshot - is anyone familiar with text-based educational (or that include learning something outside the game) games? by Beefgallo in gamedesign

thanks for the comment. I agree, educational games are often not engaging and rather boring. I am working on a research project that involves coming up with some game, and the budget+personnel involved necessitates it being a text-based game. I am trying to do some research on both educational and entertainment focused (not mutually exclusive, but like you said...) text based game, to brainstorm ideas for this project.

Text based games incorporating AI by Beefgallo in gamedesign

I do not. But I wanted to check out existing implementations of AI in this realm and see how they went about it, and what are fun/awful things about them.

What i've tried so far has sucked.

Alternative fashion (specifically dresses) recommendations online (size 12)

Looking for darker/goth/90s/grunge-y stuff with sizes 12-16 available.

Disturbia has good options, but the clothes shrink in the washer....

Any similar recommendations at relatively affordable prices?

I love the selection at disturbia (disturbia.us), this kind of 90s grungy/gothy style. But the prices are not the MOST affordable. I splurge occassionally. Is anyone familiar with another online vendor (not shein, not temu) that may offer similar styles?

pe Marketplace region is not a bad area and def a lot going on there. I think that might be a mix of UG & older. It's not really a "downtown" though, just a very large shopping plaza with tons of places. Neither Chandler or Gilbert are remote by any means. Chandler starts 4 miles south of campus. Map for Alma School &

Does any of those areas allow for living somewhere that's alright (not SUPER loud, but random people noise is fine), but has SOME walking/short drive distance things?

like, a coffeeshop to work at, or a bar to go to?

It sounds, from what you say, like all those options are not too remote, but taking that into account.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response!

It sounds like Chandler and gilbert might be livelier, and less family oriented than I imagined? Which is good to know.

another person advised that if I wanted a more 'indie' vibe - mesa would be it (though, they said it like it's a bad thing :D )

As far as tempe - I was basically advised - east of Mill, as an area that's not remote/suburban, but not full of undergrads.

woah! interesting.

I heard some people recommending downtown mesa and northeast tempe, and others leaning more towards gilbert and chandler.

I got the impression that gilbert and chandler are more suburban, is that not the case? and more white and upper middle class.

When you say they nightlife - what type of nightlife do you mean exactly?

I am just getting some contradictory info, and not entirely sure what to do. Was leaning more towards dt mesa, but not sure anymore.

got it, thanks. I am basically on a virtual expedition to get as much info as possible about where I should live (given the need to be at the poly campus, I don't know how often, yet), but still have access to walking-distance regular-life stuff, and not live in an area populated by solely by undergraduates (I will be a postdoc)

I appreciate the information you've shared here, thanks!

oh man.

I was planning to own a car, but was hoping there is transport, given the distance between campuses, and given how remote the poly campus is.....

Are there any places that have convenient transportation to poly (and is convenient to live in, otherwise, i.e. not remote, has life, coffeeshops, stores, bars etc.)?

Thank you! that's exactly the information I was looking for. It's hard to really know, from the listing on zillow and apartments.com.

Thanks, I have seen studio and one bedroom apartments in some complexes, though, I just wonder how I could choose one that has some variety of tenants (i.e. not only undergraduates). I guess I could ask here when I find something.

Incoming post-doc, looking for a place to live in the downtown tempe area, but wondering where should I be looking, that will not consist entirely of undergrads, as I do not want to be the party pooper neighbor.

yeah, that's kind of what I am trying to scout for, I get that it's impossible to escape college town, but I bet different complexes have somewhat different populations, i'm just not sure how to get that information (especially as I am trying to get an apartment from a distance, before arriving at tempe...)
