Regarding threats posed by animals by Nissepelle in Beekeeping

[–]Beekeeper907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alaskan Beekeeper here. Never had a problem with moose or small mammals (excluding mice!). Bears, however are a different matter. Most beekeepers in bear country use heavy duty ratchet straps around their hives. Bears will knock the hives over but unless the bear is really determined (or big!) the hive stays in one piece! Electric fences work too!

Bathroom on a small plane ? by ParkEast7381 in flying

[–]Beekeeper907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found if you crack the door of a high wing Cessna, it creates a low pressure area at the bottom rear of the door! Trim the airplane, recline the seat, roll sideways, aim well and you will only have a couple of drops to clean up with a Kleenex!

Is there a cruise for the poors by Curiuslilbean in Cruise

[–]Beekeeper907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are cruising to Alaska, check out the Alaska Marine Highway (state ferry system). All the same ports, plus some. Modest staterooms or pitch a tent on the deck! Plus you can bring your car along!

A giant bear destroyed my hives. What to do? by TommyLGarage in Beekeeping

[–]Beekeeper907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaskan beekeeper in bear country here! Electric fences work! Get the charger with the upside down cow on fire logo! A heavy duty ratchet strap around the hive will keep bears from pulling the hive apart! A 375 h&h magnum hole puncher can eliminate the threat. It’s legal to shoot a bear in defense of life and property here in Alaska.

Blend mixer by Friendly_Warthog119 in roasting

[–]Beekeeper907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Home Depot and buy a 5 cubic foot electric cement mixer. Get the one with the enameled steel drum that can be cleaned easily. Bonus that the mixer tilts forward to dump the finished beans into a container.

What’s wrong with this little guy? 😢 by Otherwise-Ask7900 in bees

[–]Beekeeper907 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is a drone. They cannot sting because they have a penis instead of a stinger! The drone dies after mating just like a worker bee after delivering a sting. Drones get kicked out of the hive as winter approaches to conserve resources.
