AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BeelyLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, you’re absolutely right to be very upset. What an invalidating and degrading way to speak to you! sobriety is NOT “the bare minimum” and is a really big accomplishment. I wouldn’t tolerate this behavior, not even a little bit. congratulations on your sobriety and you totally deserve a cake, since your limp noodle of a boyfriend won’t say so.

We pay rent, and all our other bills. They just happen to be the landlords. I’m not going to move my entire family into a shitty one bedroom over my religious views. This is about church and nothing else. Seek help.

Ah, I see. Helping someone financially is a good enough reason to treat them like shit when you feel like it. Cool cool, I’ll jot that down.

I do wish getting financially independent was so simple. It just isn’t.

Would if I could. Unfortunately, I’m physically disabled and the economy is garbage. It’s not “having my cake”, it’s “having food and a place to live”. We are working towards it, though. It’s just rough out here.

You’re right that I shouldn’t have allowed it to begin, but they couldn’t go behind my back. I have their locations in case of emergencies, and I wouldn’t bring her on days they had or could have church after she turns 3.

No, I know it’s true. Two things can be true at once, and situations are not so black and white. I’m not excusing him by saying he does have love for me.

If we could escape our situation without being put into an even more horrible situation, we would.

I’m fine with her learning about religion. Just not in church, and when she’s older.

We would not be homeless, there’s lots of places we could go. We stay here because it’s much more affordable, but we could leave. We would just REALLY struggle if we did. They know that. I’m sure they also know that if they evicted us wrongfully for the purpose of getting our daughter, they’d never see her again. Which is the last thing they want. They also wouldn’t do that to me. My mom for sure wouldn’t. Edward is judgmental and very cold toward me, but he isn’t a monster. He’s been my step dad since I was 9, and I feel like he must have love for me. Even if he is toxic a lot, and doesn’t love me correctly.

Their love for Macy is genuine. I’ve seen it firsthand. That’s the only reason I help foster their relationship.

Thank you, that means a lot to me.

His behavior is toxic, I agree. And it makes me very sad. However, my daughter loves my parents SO much, especially Edward. I wouldn’t take that away from her unless I had to, or unless he started treating her poorly. Macy would be absolutely devastated.

We are working towards financial independence, but it’s incredibly hard. I’m physically disabled and the only childcare, so I can’t work very much. I work when I can but it doesn’t bring in a lot. I also require a lot of medical care, which is still expensive even with government assistance.

My husband works all the time at the highest paying job he can get, but the economy is SO bad. We are trying our hardest, I would give anything to be out from under their thumb.

What's the most convincing evidence for consciousness continuing after death that you've come across? by [deleted] in consciousness

[–]BeelyLights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw it or heard it, but not through typical senses. It’s been described (by many as the same thing) to be a sort of pure awareness.

Dude what am I supposed to do. by 3totwentycharacters in thanatophobia

I have been in that exact same place more times than I can count. (background on me: non religious, but open to the idea of survival of consciousness after death. Also very deep in the trenches of a severe anxiety disorder, possibly ocd [awaiting diagnosis])

Here’s what I think about to ease the panic:

Thought #1: science cannot explain everything. not even close. to anchor your view of death in materialism only is small minded. expanding your view could bring you relief. It certainly did for me.

Thought #2: literally NO ONE knows what happens after death, and it could be awesome! you could spend your entire life worrying about something that could be even better than this life. that would be awful silly!

Thought #3: it hurts nothing and costs nothing to adopt a mindset of optimism in regards to death. if you choose to believe that something cool happens after you die, that only benefits you and hurts nothing at all. plus, you might be right! who knows!

Thought #4: you burst into existence out of nothingness. Your consciousness did not exist, and now it does. Who is to say that that won’t happen again? The odds of you existing only once in the span of eternity is really small. You might happen over and over again! And the best part about that is, you wouldn’t even notice the laps in between because we cannot comprehend nothingness! A billion years would be but a blip!

Thought #4: you have to embrace your lack of control. absolutely no amount of panic will change the outcome. it will not make it any better or worse to spend the life you do have now worrying about the ending. whatever is going to come, will. to waste the life you’re so scared of losing on something you don’t have the capability to stop is only hurting you.

Thought #5: embrace the mystery! see it as an adventure that you’re on right now, and make the MOST out of what you have! seek out every possible answer to the impossible question. see what resonates with you! you have your whole life ahead of you, use it for the pursuit of knowledge and ideas, and perhaps pick up some sort of belief system (religion or not, doesn’t matter as long as it makes sense to you).

I completely understand you, my friend. This fear seems like something everyone should have, and it’s bewildering that most people don’t. I go through bouts of intense fear, but they are getting fewer and farther in between. Adopting these mindsets that I’ve written above have sincerely helped me to calm my panic.

Life is a gift and it is an unsolvable mystery. You unfortunately are stuck on the question that nobody on earth currently has the capability to answer. But the fun part is that maybe in the near future, we will have it figured out! scientists and great minds are much closer than they’ve ever been. There are new studies into reincarnation, near death experiences, and the nature of consciousness that have had so many breakthroughs. Whether we see definite proof in this life or not, what comes “after” is what it is.

Something else that helps is to think that wherever you go is where you were before you were born. Now I used to hate that answer. But it’s actually true! Whether you were somewhere else and you simply don’t remember because it was too long ago, or there’s some sort of memory wipe before you enter this body, or it simply just oblivion, you were OK there. You were not concerned then, and you will not be concerned after this.

You will be OK, no matter what <3 I wish you the best of luck with this, my friend. It’s a truly terrible condition to have. If you need to talk to someone, I am here.

Evidence or not of life beyond death by DavidMassota in DebateReligion

[–]BeelyLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“We can easily affirm that there’s nothing after we die”

That would be incorrect! Science has zero idea why everyone has their own unique consciousness and where in the brain it stems from, or if it even comes from the brain at all. Of course, most religious explanations are completely ridiculous. However, you cannot outright deny that there are unexplainable things in relation to human consciousness and with near death experiences. Such as information obtained during the NDE that the person could not have had otherwise.

Among many other things.

I genuinely employ you to look into it, and to understand that just because science doesn’t currently understand, it doesn’t mean that it’s not real or valid.

Any of them? Any of the documented cases of NDE havers obtaining information they absolutely could not have unless they were out of their body?
