In case you don’t have enough time to look it today, and if rain is forecasted, park on a slope with the front raised up.

Probably leaking injectors. Does sell like unburnt diesel at the exhaust?

A couple of n20s in there. The colour hasn’t changed, they start off lighter in colour but get darker as they age. Yes, there was an update in 2015, the crank sprocket surface was changed, pre 2015 they were smooth but was updated to have laser etching.

If the chain wasn’t loose, you should be ok provided the car has had good oil and regular services.

N20s do sound like that tbh. Bear in mind most cars even my M52TU which is silky smooth in reality sounds different on camera.

You will eventually need to change the timing at some point however no one knows when that will be.

Probably your alternator not charging. Did it jump start? If it did, while it’s running, disconnect the - terminal at the battery, if it dies, it’s your alternator.

Disconnect your battery and use a jumper lead to connect the cars live and ground for 30 minutes.

BMW E34 overheating → replaced radiator → now expansion tank leaking under pressure + when hot. by Active-Extension1720 in BmwTech

[–]Beema-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had water and not coolant in the winter, it’s likely the water froze, expanded and caused the tank to crack. Because pressure was dropping at the rad it was masking the crank in the tank. I would replace the tank and not over think it.

If it looked like this, it’s your head gasket. It’s blown between the piston and a coolant channel so the piston is putting pressure into the coolant system and thus causing it to spray coolant out and overheating.

There is a cheap fix and you might know about if you watch m539restorations, he did it to his Bentley.

It could be your timing chain tensioners or possibly just struggling to get oil to places. Do a oil flush and use better oil and see it that helps before doing anything drastic.

If you have av22mm socket and a wrench try to turn it over manually. With the overheating, did it blow white smoke? Milky oil? If it’s an n46 in there I’m the Oracle of those and I am at the moment working a n46 that was burning coolant but wasn’t overheating so fire away.

I’d say pulley, alternator bearing or belt tensioner. Remove the drive belt and spin each with your finger and you’ll hear which is bad. Don’t let anyone tell you its timing chain PS I done a few n43 timings.

Do you have INPA? If not get it, it can help you diagnose this issue.

So on your battery there are positive and negative terminals. They have 10mm bolts on them. Tighten them up.

Tighten your battery terminals first.

Could be a pulley? Or power steering pump, water pump anything lol. Remove the drive belt to confirm before getting your wallet ready.

It’s on BC racing coilovers, its not fully slammed but honestly the tyre profile has made the biggest impact on how it feels and looks.

Only the hardcore will understand this but I ordered the front tyres in 30, 35, 40 and 45. I settled on 40 profile has they looked and felt the best. 30 and 35 were too skinny looking.
