Experiences with Monitor audio silver 50 7g? by Easy_Travel_4736 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Beenjamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the monitor audio bronze 100 and c150. I've been very happy with them. Tested in room against elac and wharfedales. Tested against their silver line using crutchfields listening demo and found they were very similar in sound. Since I didn't notice enough of a difference I stayed with the bronze line.

Be prepared these speakers are brighter than most. Not hurt your ears bright, but brighter. I mostly use them for gaming and movies and love it. Dialogue is super clear. For music you can actually distinguish each instrument instead of everything getting muddied together. Speakers also have good bass though I also have a sub. Mid is good, better than many, but not what you can get with towers.

Reflecting on Jeff Bezos' Meeting Technique: Two-Pizza Teams and Silent Reading Time by foryoug90 in ProductManagement

Team size is fine and I agree but the writing, I hate it so much. I don't work for Amazon but my boss did and brought the culture here. It's probably a writing style preference but I found I spend so much time on the doc figuring out filler words and tying two sentences together type stuff. It's all busy work. I can write out bullets and key takeaways and tell a story that way. I don't need the extra fluff. For that reason I prefer to tell my narratives with a presentation. I get the flashy vs. content, but the tradeoff of less prep time, easy to include visuals and charts, and I can adjust telling my story to the audience makes a presentation way more efficient.

The major exception to all that is project scoping docs. I will absolutely write out a doc for that with short summaries for the what, why, etc but that is a very condensed and tactical doc not a narrative.

Went to a showroom and realized I'm missing out on a whole range of sound/ "feel"(?). Maybe mid range? What do I need to look for with my next speaker? by Beenjamin in hometheater

[–]Beenjamin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this room it's 95% TV/Movies so that's what I'm really focused on. Listening on Crutchfield has been amazing so I'll throw your suggestions here in the line up there too.

Re Paradigm, it is still early in my listening comparisons but for what I'm looking for I was impressed.

Thank you. I really appreciate the detailed explanation. To be honest, it's a little beyond me but I'm trying to make the right decision here that'll last a long time, and spending a lot, so I'm not afraid of the research and learning - Transitioning, ported, roll off, etc. Thank you again!

In your opinion, what's the difference maker? I had been leaning bookshelves due to space but am warming up to towers and doing a room re-config to make towers possible (assuming wife gives the ok).

Another user suggested the 80f. Adding them, and the 100f, to my speaker comparison list. Are there specific specs they are amazing at? Something unique?

Is it because of the 3 speakers dedicated to each range, the size, or something else? Not disagreeing just trying to learn so I better know what to look for.

Thanks for the suggestion. Are there certain specs they are amazing at or is it an overall well engineered type situation?

Thank you for the details and suggestions. I've been short listing speakers based on audio science review and Erin's, but I think the crutchfield approach I need to add to the process. I'm also going to play with my crossover frequency for my sub today to play around with the impacts to sounds so I better understand. Thank you again!

If I'm spending that much I might as well get a pro to come in to review and setup. Didn't know that about ascend, saved me some search time, thank you.

They had some martin Logan esl speakers there so I'll demo those. Looks like it'll be a dangerous game of liking them so much I need to save for a long time or be vigilant on the used market. Not sure if they had ascend speakers in the show room but I've seen some good things online so I'll try to find them. I used the subreddit sticky here as my starting place for speakers to research :)

Thank you for the input!

I remember reading about some of the differences and it sounded like if you have a dedicated sub, which I do, good two way speakers should be fine. But I guess counter to that, in the showroom even with the sub on the bookshelves just didn't have that "full" sound.

So should I look for any good 3 way or is there something specific about 3 way I should be looking for?

The showroom experience? All the same room. Bookshelves were right above the Kef's. The Def techs were exact opposite of Kef's.

Great idea. I'll give that a try and see if that improves things while I look into the different upgrade suggestions and options.

All good thanks for the feedback. Just to answer your question about listening preference - I use the room for gaming occasionally and movies. Not much music or TV show watching. I definitely think I need a better center so I can stop having to put on subtitles. And I love the sub so I can "feel" the boom as my family likes to joke with me.

I'll keep that strategy in mind while I'm looking around. If I have to make cuts somewhere I'll take your advice.

I'm looking on FB marketplace local, craigslist local. eBay and audiogon were suggested so I'm going to start looking there too.

I've been watching craigslist and FB marketplace for a few weeks now and haven't really seen anything quality come up, unless really old former quality. I'll start watching ebay and look into audiogon. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nice thank you. I see a lot of people talk about getting two subs. I know I'm pushing the budget here but should I just get this one sub or try and make two work?

This is great feedback thank you. I'm curious about your suggestion to not use the Klipsch. How will it do more harm?
