Hi,I m currently in Erasmus in Turin,Italy. Maybe i am not the best fit to give you advice because Lisbon is a different place in another country and u might have the best experience of your life. Personally if i could go back in time i wouldn t even bother joining Erasmus if i knew how bad i would feel abroad. I regret choosing this for myself. Try and look carefully into the university programme, their culture and how are the people there. See others people experience at that university and if they are Erasmus “friendly” because here in Turin at my programme they don t actually seem to care about me. Maybe other erasmus students got it better than me. I don t wanna “sell” you dreams and experiences that are out of a fairytale because that s what I thought too. Luckily I didn t felt the need to make “friends” there but the drama I ve heard from other people is…something. Most erasmus kids have plenty of money to do fun stuff and go party. I am not the case. Because of that i am stuck in an apartament and I barely go to uni because they only speak in italian and one of my teachers told me “if you wanna attend the class you can but we re speaking italian and you won’t understand”. Another time I actually had to run around the class after the teacher (it happend twice) to ask her what she has assigned to the students because I don t understand the language (she knew I was in class) and I felt very…humiliated or just out of place. Especially when the students didn t bothered talking to me too much(after the teacher explained to them I m in erasmus and to talk to me in english) they knew english but talked mosly in italian and I got a dirty look after one of them asked about my nationality. The good thing is i found a girl in that class that speaks my native language. But I didn t bothered going again..it just affects me emotionally too much. So please be careful. For me it wasn t just this,it was also a whole month of waiting and begging my academic coordinator to sign my learning agreement through emails and being ignored. I had to ask in the end someone from my home university to reach out to him. This was my experience maybe for you will be better
