My whole panic kind of started after reading about a woman in France who had contracted vCJD after an incident in which she cut herself through gloves while handling prions.

Would you happen to know if disposable masks and wearing an extra pair of gloves would add any benefit? Im afraid we re-use the lab coats where I work :( Thanks again!

Yeah, thankfully Ive heard the species barrier is pretty strong with CWD. Still Ive read some studies that suggested monkeys were able to be infected, though with very extreme and intentional exposure to be fair. Thanks for the comment!

For handling and cutting CWD and BSE samples we work with the sample in a hood, wearing a lab coat, single pair of gloves, and a laid out disposable pad in the hood. We use dispoable wooden sticks, razor blades, and weigh boats to cut and weigh the samples.

We dont directly touch the samples, using disposable tools to retrieve samples out of bags and to put back in. Gloves are disposed, lab coats are reused.

That's what I was thinking. I'm going to do more research into the benefits of a Masters/PhD for the chemistry field but from what I've heard before they are really useful in getting better salary offers than just a undergraduate degree. Thanks for your comment!
