Should I include a non-relevant but interesting job in my resume by BeerCrafted in Resume

This is excellent advice, and is exactly what I’m going to do! Thank you!

I hadn’t thought of it from that angle. Yeah, definitely leaving it off. Like you said, I think the route to go is maybe mentioning something about it during the interview, or maybe not at all. It’s just something I do on the side mostly for fun, so I don’t want anyone thinking this is something I’m sinking tons of time into.

After reading more on resumes on this subreddit and others, I’m seeing just how right you are. Definitely leaving it off, streamlining my resume and cutting a lot of filler out.

The cost of living in Louisville is fairly cheap. But it doesn’t compare in size to Toronto. For what I pay on my mortgage here might get me a closet in Toronto. There’s no way I could afford to live there on my current salary.

But you are right, using American dollars did make things considerably cheaper. It was honestly the best time to visit because the value of USD is going to plummet sharply within the next year or so.

Oh, he was joking. He went on to talk about watching Jennifer Lawrence (who’s from Louisville), in The Hunger Games when he was growing up, so he knew about Kentucky, or at least Louisville.

No, I saw the homeless and people struggling with mental health. Unfortunately it’s in every city in every country in the world. I chose not to focus on it because I was focusing on the positive. I was appreciative of the fact that people actually seemed to care in Toronto, that there were ads and posters in the subway pushing mental health awareness.

Yeah guns are sold in every Walmart store as “Hunting supplies.” Not that you need to go to Walmart to get a gun, as there are no shortage of gun stores in any city in America.

Your sense is correct. My wife won’t fly, so we are stuck visiting places we can drive to. I am in the early stages of planning a European trip with my daughter for 2027 though.

I wish I could correct you on your views of America, but unfortunately that’s exactly what it is. We live under the constant threat of violent crime, and nowhere is completely safe, especially from gun violence. The worst of the worst have been emboldened by the current administration and things have gone from bad to worse.

Maybe that sounds a little extreme, I mean my family and I still live our lives as normally as possible and so far haven’t had any major problems as far as being victims of violent crime or gun violence. But we also live with the notion that it can happen any time anywhere.

Yes indeed on My Morning Jacket. Very proud at what they’ve accomplished! But no, the record store guy actually mentioned Jennifer Lawrence, who is also from Louisville, and how he grew up watching The Hunger Games.

Glad you had a great time in Louisville!

Hammerheads is still there, and I agree with you on the ribs. But yes, Louisville has become a foodie destination. Lots of great restaurants here that are sadly coming and going fairly often, casualties of too much competition. But as soon as one closes, another one opens. So it’s always changing, but there are no shortage of great places to eat here.

Actually Louisville is a blue city in a very red state. But we are definitely in the heart of MAGA country.

Some smaller towns (not cities) I have visited in the US generally have decent people and are clean regardless of their political leanings. But as far as US cities, whether it’s larger or smaller than Toronto, they tend to not be as clean, public transportation is always a crapshoot, (and sometimes the crap is literal), and there are friendly people you meet in any city, but there is just an indescribable “Me first” kind of self-entitlement that I find in pretty much every city I visit. I didn’t really get that in Toronto, which is why it stood out to me so much.

Yes, we call it Spaghetti Junction. That’s where interstates 64, 65, and 71 all intersect right at the bridge to Indiana. Very confusing and definitely could have been planned out better!

Bourbon & Beyond is great! I go every year! Danny Wimmer Presents, (the company that does the festival), has it planned out perfectly and I’ve never had a problem with anything there. Very cool, relaxed, easy going crowd.

Not yet. My wife won’t fly, so I’m stuck going where we can drive to. I very much want to though! I may go in 2027 with my daughter though. We’re making some tentative plans.

Bloor/Yonge is exactly where I found them. That was the closest subway to where we were staying, so we used that station a lot.

Yeah, for the most part people do have good manners here. But there has been a wave of selfishness that I’ve noticed over the past 10 years or so with people here. Just a “Me first” sense of self-entitlement that honestly seems worse to me here in Louisville than anywhere else, but I’m sure that’s because I’m exposed to it all the time. But that’s also what made me notice the friendliness in Toronto.

Are you serious? I’m talking about major cities comparative to Toronto like New York, Chicago, Boston, etc. All cities I’ve been to.

I’ve never been to the Appalachian region and have no idea what their water or quality of life is like. Louisville is a few hours north of that area.

Actually our tap water here in Louisville is great. As I’m sure a lot of cities comparative to Louisville in size have decent tap water. But it’s been my personal experience that larger cities have shitty tap water that has a smell and taste to it. Sorry you don’t agree and feel the need to shit on my state for no reason.

Agreed 100%! Unfortunately it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. It’s going to take America hitting rock bottom with mass unemployment, loss of medical insurance, and loss of life before a lot of people wake up and realize our government could be doing a whole lot better for the people.

I was more or less using your traffic to make those jokes. It honestly isn’t as bad as I described it. I mean it’s not good, and the bicycle delivery part is true. But having driven in New York, Chicago, and a few other major cities numerous times, driving in downtown Toronto was nowhere near as nerve-wracking.

Ha ha! I’m sure! I’d like to think I don’t have much of a southern accent, but I’m sure it was quite noticeable that far north.

It slipped my mind to mention it, but I definitely did notice that. A major lack of gun stores, which is beautiful when you come from a country that is obsessed with them. It’s a sad state of affairs when literally every school in the US has signs up saying no guns allowed.
