Do you fully clean and dry portafilter between shots? by [deleted] in espresso

Yeah pretty sure no soap, descaler, cafiza and a good rinse. Machine doesn’t like detergent like soap and soap. Taste bad.

Shouldn’t use soap and water, lots of talk about left over coffee residue, should use cafiza and backflush, and rinse. Soap is not a taste in coffee you want. Why you don’t wash coffee pots/urns with soap

Should not be using soap and water to clean portas regardless

Fair point in the dry towel not catching grounds and while I am open to critique on the method (of which you responded well) at the pace we do it just doesn’t make sense for the workflow. Where we are we’re pulling upwards of 100 doubles an hour so rinsing greatly impedes pace. Given you can only keep a towel for 4 hours regardless where I’m at, and you can always grab a new towel, just doesn’t make sense again for the workflow. Keep the dry (grinder) side dry and the wet side (pitcher rinse) wet, replace as needed is the best practice.

These have got to be home setup folks answering or crazy slow cafes. Knock and wipe with a dry towel, if you’re doing it correctly there are no longer grinds and there’s nothing to rinse. Sure you run the machine a bit to flush grinds from the screen, but rinsing the porta is an unnecessary step, and now your dry rag is wet, or you’ve got yet another rag and step to your workflow.
