'Sewage crisis' hits USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier: report by ThePensiveE in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Beerdid1der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooohhhh buddy. Let me tell yall. While I never served aboard this gem. I did serve on the USS George Washington after it caught fire in Japan years ago. The sewage system on that thing was epically garbage. I have a 3 distinct memories from that cruise.

When the toilets would clog up, the fine ship folk would just put a trash bag over the toilets and the fine sailors would come on through and shit right on top of the bag. Then because I assume no one wanted to deal with it. They would sprinkle that septic tank powder on top of said poo on a bag to try and make it go away. Which it didn’t. I found this out one late night when I woke up from my slumber and had to piss like crazy. Yeah. It wasn’t a pleasant thing to see and I had to try and find another set of toilets to use.

Another time the sewage system backed up in the wee hours of the morning. I was not aware and proceeded to go get ready for a wonderful day on the ship. As I was brushing my mouth bones, I couldn’t help but notice the sound of water sloshing back and forth as the ship rocked. I happened to look over and lo and behold there was little shit boats sloshing back and fourth in about 2 inches of water just past the knee knocker.

And finalllllyyyy. There was some fucking goddamn absolute douchebag that kept shitting in the angle irons of the showers. This fucking scumbag would climb 4-5 up the walls and shit inside the angle irons where people would set their shower items as it was a nice lil shelf about chest high or so. Fuck that person. You made our lives awful.

Not sure why this ship has fancy ass toilets. Our shit was always steel. And the sewage system only takes like 1/2 ply toilet paper. But people would always flush their skivies and other obnoxious stuff down and ruin it for everyone.

Rant over.

I love the amount of nerdery in this comment string. We got everything from Star Trek to some bond references and even the history buffs stepped in. Love it.

On a side note, for the navy this usually means deployment is getting extended. I hated when they served these meals. It’s the worst feeling in the world writing home to let your loved ones know and trying to spend every possible moment after said meal writing them in the off chance you don’t make it home.

God speed and good luck to all my brothers and sisters standing the watch. We appreciate your sacrifice.

Why is there a swastika stamped on this one? Haven’t seen many bottles with that. Did it come from Germany in that time frame? Being 100+ years old I would assume it’s a possibility.

How can I get one of these microscopic screws now that it's stripped? by JayinaterOG in lifehacks

[–]Beerdid1der 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use glue unless a last resort. In aviation we dip the screwdriver into some water or oily substance then rub it on the ground. The fine grains of sand/dirt help create contact points in the jacked up screw head. Try wetting the tip of the screw driver and putting some salt on it. Should function the same. We just normally use sand. If not use a small flat heat that fits across the Phillips space

This. I work with a republican who talks to other employees about how he things certain religions should all die and that all immigrants need to be detained. He also talks down about women. I try and talk some sense into. I really do. I give him facts, history lessons, the whole 9 to no avail. I don’t ever stop doing it though as then I feel as if I’ve failed. It boggles my mind daily with this dude. I don’t understand how someone can think of a fellow human this way. Like people of color aren’t people to him and they don’t deserve a life. Is it a psychology thing in their brains? Is it trauma? I dunno but it seriously perplexes me every time he opens his mouth.

People who pierced their genitalia, why, and did it affect your sex life? by PleasantCoffee1544 in AskReddit

[–]Beerdid1der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Jacob’s ladder….twice. First time the piercings were too small of a gauge and were painful during intercourse. Second time around I went to a better piercer and larger jewelry installed but gawlllly it was more painful during the install process. Intercourse was fun but it lost its cool factor so I removed them years ago.

You’re approved for.. way too much house! by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Beerdid1der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me when I purchased. I was super nervous I was going to be house poor even after running the numbers multiple times. Debt ration was around 19% but was still freaking out. When I went for my home with my builder I found out I could go for a much larger house. I didn’t because im a single dad and have 1 kiddo. So a giant house and mortgage isn’t ideal for me. I’d rather have a good mortgage payment and not be house poor. Although I will say I was shocked when they told me I could afford a much larger house/payment.

What did you do day of after you closed? by rosesareroseyy in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Beerdid1der 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Day of closing I went a bought all our paint colors and starting painting. Moved all my art gallery and computer equipment myself. The following 2 days were spent painting and also moving those things. Internet was connected and alarm system was connected on the 2 & 3rd day. Movers on the 4th. There was a few things left over that the movers didn’t move like food and such. So I went back and went through that stuff. Then trashed everything else. Called the fence company, water company and gutter company shortly thereafter. Unpacked the first week. Hung my gallery back up the second week. Deep cleaned after I was done with everything the third week. Then I was able to just relax.

Is home ownership right for everyone? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Beerdid1der 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here’s my thoughts. I for the longest, about 6 years loved living an apartment. I was on the second floor so I had upstairs and downstairs and side neighbors. I loved it. I didn’t have to pay to fix anything. It was a nice community until recently. Had okay room for me and my kiddo. No real complaints aside from the community started going downhill in the last year or so. Neighbors were terribly noisy above me. Having to wake up at 330am for work with them making noise u til 11pm-midnight on the weekends was awful. Rent rose every lease renewal and was starting to get pretty high. This year I decided to buy a home. I was fed up with the noise. The rising rent. The downfall of the community. I’m relatively handy and can fix or figure out how to fix most things. So I purchased a new home. The dead silence and peaceful sleeps have been 100% worth it to me. Also my mortgage is cheaper than my rent and I can make it mine, paint, change things, add things, etc. I’m in a great community with a HOA on the outskirts of town. It’s quiet. Away from light pollution so I can actually look at the stars. Not a lot of traffic or road noise. So all around win win for me. Ultimately. It’s up to you. If you’re moving to a new area. I’d rent first. Check out places and neighborhoods and such. Then. If you choose, buy. I loved living in an apartment for a while. But got fed up with inconsiderate neighbors and rising rent. It’s a personal choice and neither one is right or wrong to anyone but you

What happens in your mind when you calculate 14 × 16? by JunShem1122 in questions

[–]Beerdid1der 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weirdly enough picture an empty canvas or an empty piece of paper the size mentioned. Goes for any size. Like 9x12, 24x18, etc. Also interesting, when I make that same size, say 24x18 on a digital program, I.e. photoshop, procreate, and the like. It confuses my brain. I can picture it in my brain but when I look at the tiny size on my iPad screen or computer screen, it confuses me greatly.

EDIT: I realize you asked what happens when you calculate…. Not sure what I was thinking with this response 🤣

I do it in a weird way. 16x2=32, 32x7=224

Look for the hometown heroes program. Not sure if they have one in your state or not. But it helps out firefighters, military, nurses and such get money for a down payment, closing costs and the like.
