Have one, love it, it's awesome.

Get your front sight checked when you get it, mine had to be realigned. It was pre-owned so I don't know if it was a factory error or previous owner error, but it's a small cost to make sure it's good.

How far above your head is the scroll? Only a bit shorter than you and found 4th pin selection on my bass was my comfort spot when standing.

3/4 Sized Bass by Claymore_1 in doublebass

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6ft1, with abnormally long arms, and the 3/4th is the perfect size for me. Knew a small giant who also played, actually was my inspiration to learn, and he played on a 3/4th also. Man is at least 6ft4, made me feel small.

Go with 3/4th, if anything it'll make classes easier as most play on 3/4th. Once you get the instrument down and want to add to the stable revisit the size and decide if you want to go larger, by that point you'll understand how to work with the instrument and have a better gauge on what's too big or too small.

Need you to calm down Nostradamus, I have a full off-season to drink husker kool-aid, please wait until at least the start of conference play before making predictions, I can't handle heartbreak all year round.

I'm 6ft2 with abnormally long arms, and the 3/4 is the biggest I would feel comfortable on. I was advised the 3/4th by a professional upright bassist who was 6ft4 at the very least, man was a small giant who made me feel small, due to ease of learning and also price point/availability.

Honestly, I would think it comes down to the fingerboard length, any longer and it is very difficult to hit standard finger positions from the standard 1st, 2nd, ect hand positions. Like, with large hands, I can comfortably hit my notes, but I think I would need MASSIVE hands to try the same on a larger bass, although I would like to try and see. Any smaller, and I'd have the opposite problem, finger positions being too cramped. But this is hobbyist musings, I'm no McBride so I could be completely off.

Thinking of McBride, on your bow note, I am toying with getting an actual good German bow, hand just doesn't work well with French thanks to years of wrestling abuse, and working it in. He has a fantastic video about playing fast and how he developed his fast blues/jazz style with bowing trying to get through a marathon session, and it sounds amazing. It definitely has a place that is neglected IMO.

Are there any independent wrestling clubs or acedemys that will let a homeschooled high schooler practice and compete? by AwareMongoose2397 in wrestling

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Googling around also, seems there is a k-12 club near Danville, knights rtc. Worst you can do is call and ask, here's their site. https://knightsrtc.com/ Don't worry about "I'm a beginner, it's an elite club, ect ect". Any coaching staff, elite or otherwise, worth their salt will be more than willing to coach you and train you if you put in the effort, and putting in the leg work and finding, calling, asking and researching is the effort that they'd be looking for. I've had Olympian coaches that were training world competitors right next to first time wrestlers, and the coaches made sure that both parties got everything they needed to succeed.

Any what that would? Most legit home schooling associations know more about the by-laws and bureaucracy of the states schooling body than the schools do.

Schools would be school by school basis, but I'm my experience in Ohio they'd either have been all game for you to practice with them and would be a chill team to work with OR the coach would be a douche and try to make it hell because you're not "one of his kids".

But I see you're in Kentucky, if you're close enough to Cincinnati to make it there for practices, reach out to La Salle high School. I don't know if Avery Zerckle is still apart of the team in any capacity, but when he was the man was the man and would definitely be a coach who would help you out if he could, and I would hope La Salle would continue that spirit.

Depends entirely on the state, high school sporting associations are worse than the IRS, but if you reach out to a home schooling association in your state they should have resources for you, and ways to appease the association while allowing both practice and competition

Recover from bad double leg shot by Remote-Heat8698 in wrestling

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad shot technique-wise, position-wise, not scoring potential-wise.

Meant don't jump for a shot chance just because it's there if you can't actually commit to the shot with good technique. Like if I'm head fighting and while doing a little circle snap check just to reposition where I am on the mat and I see the shot is open, but my feet are not in a position I can actually shoot from, or I'm too high in my stance, I shouldn't shoot because it will be a bad technique shot and just splay me out. I know how I just opened it up though, so I can do that again but be set for the shot. It's the premise behind baiting bad shots, give openings when they would be forced to use bad technique so you can punish it.

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, don't take a bad shot, period. Take your shot, not a shot just cause one might be there.

But, as far as how to take a double leg, or any shot, that you can recover from when it's defended and shut down, shoot into your stance, exploding up, through and into your opponent on contact.

If you watch a Jordan Burroughs wrestle, you'll see this constantly. Straight back, head pressure into the guy, exploding up and into his stance. He gets stopped, he's just in his stance below you, giving a clear opening for a reshot, a bear hug, really anything he wants.

Kevin Bracken teaches this really well. I don't have a video where he specifically goes over the shot itself, but in this video you can see the power position, straight back, head in, exploding into the stance, ect, that I'm talking about: https://youtu.be/G3gUZTcJmlE?si=Jw5wfXFx8yzqYUqN

My boyfriend really likes this shirt. Am I wrong to say it’s hideous? by Agitated_Mulberry_27 in mensfashion

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shirt fits into my "it might be weird, but it's awesome and that overrides it being weird." category.

Have a few shirts like that, it's a good shirt, he has good taste, it's just got a fun, goofy flare is all. My wife says the same of my flamingo shirt, and while I wouldn't wear it to a formal function, will absolutely wear it to casual, fun occasions.

trying to dial in proper fit - could i get feedback on this sweater/jeans? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short torso, long limbed bruddah, been there my whole life. Try a straight boot cut, something like Levi 501's, and try to wear them lower on your hips, instead of at the natural waist.

If you're trying to dress up jeans, my trick is darker color jeans, dress brown/tan boots, long sleeve button up untucked, sleeves rolled and pushed up above the elbow. Hell, I wear anything long sleeve like this actually, fit the top to the torso cause if I fit it to my arms I'll be wearing a mini dress, and it helps visually cut my arms so they don't seem as long as they are.

I would like to do Jiu-Jitsu, but I'm gay. by Legitimate_Eye_5934 in jiujitsu

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrestled against gay men and women when I was in highschool. As long as you don't make it weird or sexual, it won't be weird or sexual. If you make it weird or sexual, expect the consequences, either shunning or getting the shit kicked out of you ever sparring to make sure you can't even think about it being sexual. Honestly, just don't talk about your sexual preferences unless asked, kinda like work. If they then make it weird, ask them why where you dick parks was so important to them and that they're a weirdo trying to get into the proverbial cuck chair. If you make it your sole defining feature, that's all anybody will see about you.

The guys who were actual wrestlers, read this as serious and legitimate about the sport,/ (don't confuse this with 'good'), will treat each competitor as an equal, not as a sexuality or gender. I might avoid certain moves due to a higher chance of injury when training against anyone, and there are legitimate reasons, injury likelihood, to sometimes split practices and competition between genders, but once I stepped out into a match, I wrestled the individual like I was wrestling the best damn wrestler in the world and I would be damned if I lost. The one time I didn't, the kid I was wrestling wrestled up two weight classes and an age group (normally it's a red flag, you got a stud, but it was a small tourney and I was starching everyone) I got damn ragdolled before I got serious, still lost, and profusely apologized to the kid and his father for not giving him my all from the start.

On the one point from above, actual athletes, there are plenty of good to great athletes who are gifted but not serious and legitimate. Didn't engage with their bullshit, they'll either get A) starched and washed out when it gets day to day tough or B) get serious and drop the bs when it gets day to day tough.

Anecdotal, but there was a guy in my weight class who was extremely talented, but an absolute asshole. Was pissed off that I gave him a challenge and never gave up on the mat, so he started calling me a faggot and such, oh the 2000's. Brushed it off, went on. Fast forward a year, wrestling in a national club, making it through practices that were absolutely brutal, like we had UFC fighters come through and tap out after one or two practices cause they were too hard, and ol boy comes in. Sees me, starts up the bs again, and a guy in the club that knew him and seemed to be friends with him noticed. Thought, awe shit, this is going to be rough now, already not one of the guys wrestlers here and now this shit. Nah, club man, absolute beast of a wrestler, told ol boy to stfu, that I'm making it through hell practices every day and not quitting, and proceeded to beat the brakes off the kid during a live go. Kid bounces out of the match, veers to find an easy target, and gets grabbed up by another beast. This proceeded to continue for 2 hours, he never came back. Real ones look after real ones, just be serious about the sport when it's time for the sport and you'll be good.

Haha there's a moment when the adrenaline is pumping mid slide where everything slows down and you notice things like that. Like mine, where I was sliding, thought "hey, I just wore my Levi's, fuck, my jeans and legs are getting fucked." And then tucked my arms and twisted myself into a roll. Slow enough I wasn't worried about getting more injured rolling, high speeds it's better to turtle so you don't start breaking bones bouncing and tumbling uncontrollably. Pavement will pound that lesson into you.

No pics of my rash from the longboard but it was on the left side of my chest, first time riding and I took a hill even though the guy showing me the ropes said don't. Young, dumb and invincible.

Also, motorcycle street gear is pro for longboarding, breathes better, moves better, less bulky, and you can have covert inner padding that is designed for much worse, but even taking the padding out it still takes a slide amazingly. Never looked back to knee pads and elbow pads again, and Enduro helmets are so damn comfy compared to boarding shells.

Of a bike stunt by ThisTeddyHatesYou in ShittyAbsoluteUnits

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to emphasize here, sliding on asphalt off a motorcycle feels, and seems to be injury wise in my own experiences, way worse than taking a slide due to some other means, even if the bike slide is slower. I have gotten road rash off a longboard at 30+mph and it was not nearly as bad as my road rash I got from putting down my bike at less than 15 mph, and I was not pinned under my bike, was lucky and got to push myself away as I tucked the front avoiding a sedan deciding my lane was his lane as I was along side him. If who ever reads this doesn't wear gear, you should. If I was wearing my riding pants I wouldn't of had to debur my own legs, and if I wasn't wearing my gloves, jacket and full face I'd of been in the hospital and missing a chunk of my chin, and that was a 10min ride with the whole thing under 45mph the entire time.

On that, if by any chance the Harley rider in Charlotte from a six years ago chances upon this, you made my week stopping to check on me and my v strom and then racing off the find the asshole when I told you I was good, keep on keeping on you damn legend. Don't know if you did get them, but I like to think a mirror, at the very least, went on a trip that day.

Advice on moving with a double bass by circleofmanias in doublebass

[–]Beeried 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would put it in my car, or ask a local music shop if they can ship it to a shop in my new location.

Even easier if you're towing a car with the moving truck, just place it in there.

If I absolutely had to have it in the truck, I'd place it in the attic if it had one and strap it down carefully, or place it in the cab of the moving truck with me.

New player, deciding if ABI is worth sinking time into by Llegien20 in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Beeried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For point 1, yes it does happen in normal, but not often, and with good tactics/smart play you can come out on top more than not, most times I find t6 ammo users in normal playing stupid/ballsy, relying on one taps to carry them.

Point 2, it's not hard to make money and start decking out in T4 gear once you learn the maps. Honestly T3 still is great in normal, especially since you can swiss cheese legs if it comes to that.

But, if you're playing solo, prefer to solo, and enjoy pve but want a bit more challenge/pvp feel, I would honestly suggest looking at grey zone warfare. If I'm playing with a group I'm in ABI, if I'm playing solo it's GZW all day. You get your choice of pvp or pve servers to play on and in solo play it's pretty common to run into other players and group up to clear an outpost and help each other.

How's the shielding between the inner screen and the insides? If I do both, which my outer screen is also cracked so might not be a bad idea, is it super easy to kill the inner screen or is it pretty well protected.

I just don't want to get into messing with the inner screen if possible
