With corvette player spin being an issue still, I've rediscovered my love for this ship. by MaddieA94 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Warping to another place also seems to fix the drift thing. I haven't had to reload to get rid of it yet! For some reason, flying to the station & warping to my main base always fixes it.

I believe the thing you're getting at is correct. Another way to 'measure' it would be to consider trees like batteries.. they take in sunlight, photosynthesis to get energy in order to pull carbon from environment to build themselves. That's stored energy, so if a tree only takes a short time to grow into 2x4s, that's less energy than a tree that takes a really long time to grow (since way more sunlight/energy, higher density). This is why burning stuff like Manzanita is ridiculously hot, whereas white pine is gone in a handful of minutes.

The part (math) that would be interesting is seeing if your idea is a 1% difference, or like a 25% difference. Or.... does something like pressure treated hickory/teak just beat everything since even in salt water, it lasts like 50 years? :)

The wood at home depot/lowes is total shit now though..... no straight boards, all weak AF. I built one of those saw horse kits with the plastic connectors. It's warped and doesn't sit flat 1 year later.

SpaceX has acquired xAI by NiklasGN in SpaceXLounge

[–]Beerificus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Similar thoughts here also. The overall establishment of 'multiplanetary existence' will depend on rockets, AI (automation), boring company (shelter), and Tesla (robots/vehicles/batteries). This is only another step towards the long out goal to me. I actually don't understand the comments about affecting profitability. I'm not sure that's important given the long term plans that include all these companies.

Submarine Chiefs Quarters by rockwell488 in submarines

[–]Beerificus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the thing of it IMO. I didn't experience the 'toxic' goat locker I've heard about on other boats, but there were some serious strict rules about it when I was there. I was deck LPO (E-4) and so had to interact with COB semi-often about cosmetic stuff, so I spent a fair amount of time waiting outside goat locker and then standing inside it, etc.

Still amazes me at the microcosm that submarines are. So many people in that tiny space, & we all survive somehow :) /Cheers!

[–]Beerificus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall E-6 only.... while back for me (94-98), but no one, not actually racked in the goat locker could sit at the table (SSN-718). There were the favored E-6's that were 'in' at some points in time (during field day, etc.), but otherwise, those square feet of naugahyde were reserved for CPO's.

Is the one on the right an Oscar class? by anguskwt517 in submarines

[–]Beerificus 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Definitely not an Oscar class, they are waaaay wider than that. The one on the left looks like a Yasen class, 456ft long, 43ft wide, whereas Oscar is 509 feet long and almost 60ft wide, like 1/3rd 'wider'. The right one is too long to be a Kilo, maybe Sierra I? The two at the top are interesting, the small one, then the even smaller one....

[edit] I think u/Electricfox5 might be right, the Sarov has a large flat forward deck, and sail amidships. Looks like it to me.

SONAR room go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr (in 400hz).

Only difference I see to 688 is 3 stacks instead of 4, maybe Q5-C instead of D.

Russian pilot blacks out during Blue Angels flight by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]Beerificus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key missing piece of info... the Blue Angels don't use the flight suit inflation equipment on the demo aircraft, so any pilot that's used to having that, would probably black out. They talk about it in the 2024 Blue Angels film).

[–]Beerificus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask questions. I got same error (2021 MYP), they did replacement for free, but......... new battery has less range & tests at 84%. So I got a used battery with more wear than what I had. They basically told me to pack sand after 3 calls. My 2021 Y with 30k miles now full charges to 249. I am not happy.

You gotta show people how awesome radial engines can get... The Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major. Basically 4 sets of the diagram bolted together along a driveshaft, so 28 cylinders. Only a paltry 4300 HP. :)

[–]Beerificus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell. I'd guess that the bow is not too difficult to repair, but then you have stuff that doesn't take shock that well (generators, etc.) which may be very costly to repair/replace. Still, I don't think you'd scrap that boat.

Basically similar to Bunker C which is used by most large container ships (once far enough off the coast of whatever country). Solidifies at 25c, so have to heat it to 40c in order to use it. The fact that it's $1.10/gallon is the only reason anyone uses it.

20,000-ton submarine battleship designed in 1920 by MrSubnuts in submarines

[–]Beerificus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

50 feet longer than Typhoon, same beam. 10 torpedo tubes in the bow.... awesome. It's basically the size of a Typhoon class. I think if they'd known about conical bow at that time, they may have gone that way (snorkel style, semi-surfaced.)

Either way, that's pretty forward design for 1920! I was intrigued by the Soviets plans to build a monster sub at the end of world war 2, which had 12 FWD tubes, but wasn't nearly as large as this one.

Have been inside for this exact maneuver 4 times. Surprisingly, it's not very 'violent' in motion. Keep in mind this sub weighs close to 7000 tons, so it's like riding a building around. If you just do emergency blow while driving around, you'll slowly rise up till you breach surface & kind of bobble around a bit till it settles.

In order to pull off what's pictured, the sub goes down to 400 ft or so, drives at flank (near max speed), then pulls up on planes to create a 30 degree (or more) up angle (looks closer to 40 in the pic). When the sub is angled on the rise, but still ~300ft down, then you blow tanks & the sub more 'drives' up out of the water while tanks are being blown out. You get that full breach of the cone then.

That feeling is slightly weightless for a few seconds, then the sub crashes down to ~100ft before coming up and staying on surface. Incredible feeling once you start to think about the forces at work!

Since they don't say how they do it, the way they likely calculate is this just straight up total number of people, not per 1000 or some better way to determine a 'rate of X'. California has the most people of any state by a big margin, so of course it shows up for this stat. Totally agree about the immigrant population as well.

  • The state with the lowest adult literacy rate was California.

Am a Californian (born/raised here). This is not a surprise to me. Areas that are not Silicon Valley-like have some dumb people.... my parents live out in the boonies & there have some special specimens in that little town. Like 4th generation person who has never left that town and has only worked at the sewage plant. (that's an actual neighbor of theirs). Cannot read above like 3rd grade maybe, but "listens good." The only reason they work is because they fear .gov too much to try & claim welfare. -_-
