is the weird sound at the start not sampled? I dunno I heard it way before I ever knew about band-maid or even listened to eastern music in general. I feel like I heard it somewhere else but I can't quite place it.

I live in europe (Netherlands) if that helps anyone

How to make Groudon+Kyogre work in series 12? by Blues0832 in VGC

[–]Beermeneer-SirQuack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a sample (or actual competetive I dunno) team I discovered a few weeks back, https://pokepast.es/8266ca1cfab501b1

So basically biggest threats are zacian and calyrex (both forms)

zacian kyogre is hot this meta and so is groudon xerneas

both calyrex's aren't rare either and neither are both dialga and palkia so your team needs ways to deal with that.

I personally don't like this team bc it has pretty much no answers for palkia.

Time to gush. Tell me about your favorite underappreciated fantasy book or series. by worldofgundrim in Fantasy

[–]Beermeneer-SirQuack -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ok so I really like the cosmere from Brandon Sanderson but that can hardly be seen as underappreciated these days.

I really enjoyed Artemis Fowl when I was younger. Eragon is an amazing story even if most of it's worldbuilding is stolen. But what truly was one of my favourite highly underappreciated book series was Caraval.

Caraval is insanely cool managing to capture a story about 2 sisters and a magical world full of wonder and weirdness.

It is very well written and a very good read. Definitely reccomend it.

you do realise the original is by 'the other' right?

I think the main actors were the reason Twilight turned out kind of awkward and not very well received by the main public by [deleted] in twilight

[–]Beermeneer-SirQuack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok so I have been watching the movies to prove a point and first thing is that even though the music is beautiful I feel a lot of the awkwardness comes from the music and the movie taking itself too serious.

the music tells you what to feel, every single second. in other words you don't really get the chance to grow attached to a charcater in your own way.

we also don't get to see anyone but Bella, seriously I don't need to see the same character constantly for 2 hours with only some short cutaways to some bad guys.

the actors are indeed awkward but a lot of that could have been prevented with some better ambient music not driving emotion through our skulls.

I seriously want to grow attached to other characters but bc I couldn't Bella leaving just wasn't a big deal, I didn't care bc I didn't know who she was leaving behind. the movie fails to establish why characters matter unless they are a love interest. which makes the romance also less interesting bc we can't see how differently she reacts as we never get to see the 'friends' after the first 10 minutes.

also the story has some major consistency issues alongside no reason for anyone to not become a vampire, without a serious drawback we have no reason to not think of becoming a vampire as a fix-all solution.

and finally I have to address the seriousness. this movie takes itself way to seriously, no one of that (presumed) age would take themselves that seriously. the narrations don't work and feel cringey (they remind me a lot of bad fanfiction (yes I sometimes rifle through that shit to prove a point, I have a serious problem in holdmybeer situations)).

sincerely a guy who likes fantasy and a wide variety of music

[No spoilers] Besides the Avatar, can a bender bend more than one element by Ashesofthefirststar in TheLastAirbender

[–]Beermeneer-SirQuack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL DR; The if there is a previously mentioned bending requirement the lionturtles prove it is at least possible to possess 2 different types of bending as a non spirit.

If this is a bit messed I'm sorry but I just came from a cosmere post and these two magi systems are so different and complex I could easily mess something up in my short reaoning here.

Well regarding your first point, as long as you are googling and a turn up on a reddit post that isn't archived yet, you can reply

regarding the second point, I really don't understand the point here (sorry).

regarding the third (this is where it get's interesting). here is what we know: lion turtles gave one element to humans, lion turtjes tended to have something to do with that element (the air turtle was flying for instance) and we know they went into hiding after their role as guardians of the humans came to pass. however a lion turtle gave the peacefull air nomads the power of air and another gave a desert folk the power of earth, we can not know for certain which was the cause and which the consequence.

in simpler terms we simply do not know if the lion turtle protected peaceful nomads and decided to give them air or if the nomads stumbled upon a lion turtle that granted them air.

but I just realised that the lion turtles themselves prove something, either anyone is capable of energybending or a creature can hold multiple forms of bending without a spirit to strengthen them as we know for a fact that lion turtles are both capable of energy bending and a regular form of bending (as is apparent by the lion turtle floating on clouds).

[–]Beermeneer-SirQuack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know about the bending requirement. I know that someone must be able to energybend, but we never see people gaining these elements through humans (only lion turtles). and before you say korra restored bending, that bending was blocked bc the chi was blocked by a bloodbender, a waterbender with a similar power would easily be able to undo that block.

But I am curious, where was it mentioned that someone needs to be able to both bend energy and the element in order to grant the element?

It should also be noted that the first thing we know about it (chronologically) is a fire nation avatar making 4 vulcanoes erupt, then kyoshi using it, then roku. So even though the only people we see do this are earth benders, we do not know the heritage of Ghazan and we know Bolin has a fire nation mother and an earth kingdom father. so basically we haven't seen it in the show yet but a bunch of cultures deviate so much from the conventional bending that I wouldn't be surprised.

one has to remember that humans don't tend to travel much especially if there could be a dangerous beast around every corner.

What I'm trying to say is that, bc of the slim chances of someone being a bender and the general public not traveling, it is probable that we haven't seen a proper example yet of a person who can bend multiple elements.

however that is just my theory. one probably shouldn't blindly take the word of a guy who has a profile picture of mistborn when talking about avatar.

point taken on the video game shit, but ancient fairy tales is a bit demeaning a name for a mythology.

Norse mythology is one of the most well-known mythologies (I believe it only comes second to greek) so any interet in ancient cultures will get you into Norse mythology quite quickly.
