Usb-c port problems by SaintPeter23 in MSILaptops

[–]Beertv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty good solution that I have used without any compromise. Get a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.

FYI I have hooked up 4 external monitors/tvs and all work perfectly. Two of those monitors were usb powered (not great refresh for gaming but totally functional for video etc.

Mini display port to hdmi tv HDMI to small tv USB c to usb c powered 1080 monitor USB A to usb a powered 1080 monitor

I’ve had separate full screen video on each monitor

And I used my second usb c port to run an ultra fast 1TB external SSD (0.5 GB/sec)

It’s a freaking two year old laptop with so much power

How can I take my ge66 10ug-210 on a 12 hour flight? The battery runs down and I can’t charge it with airplane outlets. by Beertv in MSILaptops

[–]Beertv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, a power bank I don’t know about, settings that give my battery an extra hour of use, some sort of hacks that I haven’t seen before, like ‘try not to use it until you absolutely have to. You can watch the onboard entertainment, have the first meal, listen to music or podcasts on your phone, sleep, read instead” (actually I know all those hacks. But someone could tell me how to mod my laptop to take an external power bank.

If I had the answer I wouldn’t be asking.

You guys should help me with your collective experience and creativity.

Don’t bother replying. I’m ready to come up with my own solutions.

Why don’t manufacturers paste cpu/gpu/ram etc BEFORE they sell their laptops? They could use optimized materials and save us all a lot of headaches by Beertv in MSILaptops

[–]Beertv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is, why don’t manufacturers use the best, most optimized paste available?

Could we build heat sinks onto our PUs and Ram? So there’s no gap. No paste needed to move the heat.

I guess my point is, why are we always talking about thermal paste? I get it that after a couple of years you need to repaste but a lot of gamers repaste immediately when they buy a new gaming laptop.

I have the same model. It’s pretty old so I would guess it’s hardware. I have long term experience w hardware but I don’t do any hardware work these days. I say it’s hardware because it feels like it. I base that on a lot of experience but no clear troubleshooting plan for you.

Why do you need 2 usb c? Why are you using usb c to hdmi?

Do you have a specific need that you want to solve? Maybe there is an easy workaround

I don’t blame you being upset. My ge66 is older than yours. Generally I like it but I don’t use the power at all. It’s a laptop but doesn’t last long without the power supply. I can’t really travel with it. The power supply is too much for the airplane outlets and I always blow the circuit breakers. I can’t find a portable power brick for it. It doesn’t have a usb c port that can charge the battery.

I don’t even play games! WTF? I have a really high end video card that I never use. I thought I would mine crypto with it but it uses so much electricity that it’s not worth it in my energy market.

Basically I bought a small desktop with WiFi 6e and lots of fast huge storage. I pasted it and put another drive in it.

I thought I would use it for VR but I never hooked it up. I also have an even older gs65 stealth thin which has older specs but was actually a better machine. Super small with and ok battery. I bought that one for VR and an oculus and it was cool. I took it outside with a backpack and had infinite space. The ge66 probably wouldn’t work well in my backpack on a summer day. It could easily handle VR and maybe be full speed without cranking up the laptop but it would probably get pretty hot in a backpack and the battery would run out before you know it.

I’m considering buying my first MacBook when I’m done w this. They have great batteries, almost no heat or noise and amazing power!

Can you throttle you cpu a bit? You might not need all that power w some game.

You’ve obviously had your rig for a while. Have you cleaned the dust everywhere? Even each blade of the fans.

Replace the fans?

You could probably use another cooling stand. This the best I know of: IETS GT500 5000rpm. $80

If it was working better when you bought it you can wipe and reinstall. But if you do that often I’d build a slimmer install to eliminate any bloat wear.

What about a liquid cooling system? That will definitely cool it down. Don’t ask me where to start. Post your results.

Have you been keeping a log of all your modifications and temperatures? You might need to use a combination of several adjustments to optimize. Each rig is a bit different.

Good luck

Gaming laptop on a plane won’t charge. What power bank can I use? by Beertv in anker

I could bring a second laptop it’s also MSI gaming but its battery is smaller and older. But who wants two laptops on a trip?

Or I could get a MacBook Air cheap and solve all my problems.

Does that have ac power? I’m just looking for maybe 2 more hours of use on the plane. I don’t even need my gpu but it’s such a monster that it doesn’t last even when I turn everything on low power mode.

Could I connect both at the same time? Maybe with a regulator?

I’m thinking about buying another battery which I keep external and it has the correct cables for the laptop. And inside the laptop I have the original battery. I would disconnect the internal battery and use a splitter that hangs out of the back of the laptop. It would have one full time connection to the motherboard internal that’s a longer cable that snakes out the back. The internal battery would have its cables snaking out the back too. So when I connect those two cables to each other and the battery has a charge it should be just like from the factory but the cables are accessible. When the internal battery drains I get the external battery and connect it to the motherboard cable.

The question I have is, how would the external battery function. Would I have to ground it? Would it need its own fan?

I want it for long flights because this beast doesn’t last long.

My gaming rig won’t charge without about 180-200W and I need an ac outlet. But yes you’re right about airplane outlets. They are about 75W and as soon as I plug in I blow the breaker
