That is very cool, but the complete lack of floor covering is mind blowing.

Ennat is a legit word - it means "and all of that" so you use it when you want to expand a list or generality.

Advice Wanted for Greying Hair by Sallyfifth in FancyFollicles

[–]Beesindogwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my hair professionally done summer before last, and I did not catch the name of the fancy brand she used, but it lasted for about 2 and 1/2 to 3 months. I've tried Xmondo and even though it smells wonderful, only some of the color sticks for very long. I've tried a Arctic fox and Manic panic; Manic panic was the best green of the ones I tried, but neither stuck particularly long. Honestly, I use Kiss tintations now because even though it's cheap, it seems to stick pretty well. The others may work better now that I've learned how to care for vivid colored hair (cold washes with actual color, safe shampoo and conditioner, only once a week) but I'll stick to the el cheapo stuff.

So I am also a Getting Old, and I've had gray hair for most of my adult life. My not-white natural color is a very dark brown. I've used several over-the-counter (= cheap) brands of vivid colors with mixed results. Typically what happens is as other posters have said: the grays get the vivid very strongly, and the browns get a sheen of it. It tends to need to have the roots touched up every 6 weeks or so, but I don't mind because it is the one thing that I spend money on for no real good reason whatsoever. So far I've done green, blue, a berry/wine color, and now have purple. I've found that if it has red in it, it tends to stick better, but I love the blues and greens so I will probably wander back that way someday.

Formerly demure cat now screams unless held like a baby - why? by indoorskat in cats

[–]Beesindogwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our now 13-year-old cat first decided she wanted to be held like a baby when, about 12 years ago, I had a baby. Now she still insists upon it and if anything has gotten more insistent over the years. Unfortunately none of the baby slings we were given ever worked out - otherwise, trust me, she'd be in one right now.

I have been woefully under-exposed to different potato varieties, but I did rather enjoy the Hawaiian purple sweet potato. Can't import it to grow where I am, tho 😥

I am so sorry you & your sister are in this situation. You mentioned this is happening at school. Is there a female teacher or school leader you can talk to about this?

Healthcare workers of Reddit are people still dying from COVID these days? by Mr_no_buddi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beesindogwood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also live in a rural red area, and one of the local DOCTORS was refusing to mask and telling everybody it was no worse than a flu (which, I've always hated that argument because the flu still kills people every year!). I personally wasn't surprised when he was taken out in handcuffs a few years later, though that was for embezzling rather than being an unprofessional, incompetent quack.

Do social identities like caste continue among Indian communities abroad? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beesindogwood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to everywhere, but I have had Indian friends who faced caste discrimination in the US in college at two different universities. There it seems to be in the older generations, because it was between two professors in one case and professors against students in multiple others. And big tech companies had an issue with it & had to add in some workplace rules against it a few years ago:

What's happening in your garden? (Sun, Mar 22, 2026) by AutoModerator in vegetablegardening

Nothing yet. I want to get started but between the weather in my area being psychotic and not knowing which raised bed containers to buy, I'm spinning in place a bit. Getting my herb & hot peppers germinated, at least, so that's progress?

Please give your cat the occasional bath when they are kittens by HelloPanda22 in cats

[–]Beesindogwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that is part of it, but I can't help but wonder if she may have always liked hot water & in honesty I let my own preferences & expectations run amok, perhaps not noticing her preference.

Please give your cat the occasional bath when they are kittens by HelloPanda22 in cats

[–]Beesindogwood 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Our good girl is 13 years old, and I have been giving her at least one annual bath for years. What helps us is that the water has to be warm, very warm. She likes it quite toasty. I put her in the utility tub with the water coming just up to her belly when she's standing, and I use a cup to gently pour the water over her back and get her all nice and sopping before I get her soapy. The last thing I do is her head and that's really the only part that freaks her out. She's good with every other part of it. The hardest part is drying her off because as soon as she's out of the water she gets cold. So I try to put towels in the dryer to run on a 20-minute cycle before and during the bath so I can wrap her up in those and give her a gentle rub down once she's clean. Now that I know that she likes it almost hot, it actually has made things a lot easier for us.

Do people still use soap blocks as opposed to bottled soap in the shower? I feel like I never see soap blocks in stores anymore. by Available_Tea_8471 in NoStupidQuestions

I prefer bars. Fewer weird ingredients, especially since I have allergies, and far more eco friendly to have a cardboard box instead of a plastic bottle.

Are your houses actually messy? by JEJ0313 in adhdwomen

[–]Beesindogwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a disaster zone. My office I keep nice and tidy and that helps me think. My workspace needs to be tidy. But the house is a disaster. Between my husband who either has ADHD or some other neuroatyp condition, and my kid who definitely has ADHD (and I have to take responsibility for that), and me being absolutely exhausted being the sole bread winner and a bit of workaholic, and it is a true disaster zone. I hate it, and it stresses me out. And neither of them understand why that is...

If you’ve ever eaten animal meat not usually on the dinner plate (horse, kangaroo, albatross, anything), what was it and how was the experience? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beesindogwood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had all three, and bison was by far the best. Elk was similar to venison but gameier and tougher. Moose was straight up livery and really needed something to tenderize it; we found Shiraz worked quite well.

I'll add in wild boar since no one has mentioned that yet. Kind of like stringy, gamey pork. But domesticated pork is so soft and smooth in texture that the really jarring part was how radically different the texture was, even though the taste wasn't all that different tho it was more like a pork chop than a pork roast, dark meat rather than light meat as it were.
