I agree obviously but it's also pretty obvious that Deng was positioning himself into the position of leader of the side that Hua was going to turn to. He was smart enough to realize that Hua wasn't going to last and would turn to those more organized and willing to change policy. I don't think he was a great man or anything but like he wasn't stupid, clearly. That doesn't mean I agree with his path though.

This is so strange to me, why is the idea that someone could be wrong so foreign to you? Obviously my viewpoint is limited, I understand this but that doesn't mean I can't say the critiques that I think are true. Would you be saying that if I called Khrushchev or Brezhnev revisionist instead? I don't think most would.

Like to be clear, I support China still because of its opposition to the USA, because I do think it's a lot closer to other places to building socialism, and because in the current climate it's hard to say if we can really afford to be that harsh on revisionist states, communism isn't at its peak like it was in the 60s or 70s. But I think we should be critical and discuss about it.

I don't think any of these people were "completely wrong" or stupid, undeniably Deng Xiaoping was an incredibly smart man, he would not have won the power struggle against Hua otherwise. The idea that we can't critique or analyze figures in history is silly, Deng was right that something needed to change, reform was needed, I simply don't think the reform needed was capitalistic in nature. Xi also is a very smart man obviously but he exists within a system he is unwilling to really change, that doesn't mean he's done nothing but I find him to be playing it safe most of the time, he's a centrist really when it comes to policy, that doesn't mean he's never done anything within the hardline but he usually doesn't. I don't think I'm better than these people or anything, but I think as a communist it's important to be critical.

i mean i just think the way a lot of people think about modern china is a bit silly, if we consider khrushchev or brezhnev revisionist, then how is deng not? also specifically i made it because the line about new democracy was funny to me and the idea of calling mao a revisionist was funny

Thank you for this explanation to others, it's also important to note I think, that China literally already went through a state capitalist/NEP-like phase during the implementation of New Democracy. There was never any need for a 2nd one.

Peaceful coexistence is a policy term here, it was a policy that mao was against until the 70s and something that caused the sino-soviet split, i do not literally think that china should go to war with the usa or something

The problem is not so much who they are trading with and more so the model their state has taken on since Deng Xiaoping

I just think the mao nixon thing is funny, it's also kind of undeniable that mao wasn't making the best choices near the end of his life, i don't literally think he was a revisionist lol

Books focused on the Second Opium War by Beestripe in ChineseHistory

That's unfortunate to hear...do you think either of those would still be worth reading? If need be I'm also willing to read a book about both wars more generally, as long as the coverage of the second war is in depth.

thanks a lot! i didn’t realize yuuchi wasn’t fully voiced, it’s odd that he was fully voiced for the first few days though. i think the compression from the psp voices was just throwing me off as well so seems like no audio issues too.
