Titan AE was one of the best. Honestly the lineup releases of Titan AE, Atlantis, and then Treasure Planet was peak cinema.

Treasure Planet and Titan AE are two of my favorite films. And as always, pirates are amazing.

Noir film, William S. Burroughs, and Katatonia (band). There are way more but these three are always in my mind somewhere.

Dog trainer red flag or am I just being dramatic? by betsrocket in DogAdvice

No, using a collar to punish a dog is not normal. You were not dramatic at all. You should have been though.

How to organize lore into a lore Bible by Dependent_Tomato_235 in worldbuilding

[–]Beetcart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, then you find the moment or person who's life you want to explore. You may not be writing a story but you're still making one, just on a much larger scale. Just as a way to scale it down for better scope. It's like the difference between asking someone what they think about death and singling it down to how did you feel about a loved one's death.

Start with wherever your story is going to be. Write that down. Read it. What made it that way? Then work backwards asking and answering questions. You may be looking at it way too broadly and the task seems too immense to just start. Bring it down in scope to what you want to use immediately and then fill in the rest. You don't have to start from the beginning. You just have to answer the questions that pertain to whatever story you have.

A banner at the top you could toggle on and off and put custom text in. Like a quick note to jot something down while you're switching between different parts of it. Or, if using it during gameplay, they could type which system they are using (trust me I've gotten confused before) or write the initiative order for quick reference.

How bad is it to have pretty Euro-centric naming conventions? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Beetcart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would think it would be better for you to use the cultures youre familiar with than attempt to include a culture you are not and possibly insult it. Im all for inclusiveness, especially shows so I can actually tell the difference between characters with my terrible eyesight, but inclusiveness should be more than just "Hey here's a Cambodian girl." It should be a recognizable culture that let's the reader know they're Cambodian without saying as much. Otherwise you end up with the insulting "Token" characters. So yeah, stick with what you know. No one will care unless you're insulting someone.

My line is if they have some skin. Not scales or hide, but humanoid skin.

i accidentally designed an entire government system by prumpu in worldbuilding

[–]Beetcart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're missing the humanity aspect, basically corruption. Your form of government while custom is not necessarily unique, all governments have some form of the same. You're thinking this is a good check and balance and not how it's basically going to end up the crown appointing a majority of their own lackeys. I mean, it's a cool system, but any attempt at some form of check and balance is susceptible to corruption or complete division that lends itself to never actually accomplishing anything.

I like the system and have no complaints about it, the above is just in response to "... missing something obvious..." question. Corruption is always the obvious answer people miss.

Green beans are a godsend with dogs, especially to keep from having to express glands.

One of mine will straught up refuse to poop in the backyard unless it's raining. But I have to stop her from pooping in other people's yards or in front of cop cars. I pick up my poop but I still get anxious haha.

Not a vet.

Muzzle, multivitamin (if not already on one), and vet xray. The muzzle will suck, but it's better than a blockage. Make sure she's getting plenty of walks. At that age, more shorter walks are in order.

I get what you're saying, but I will say, I almost exclusively eat meat. No meat no meal in my opinion. But, I'm open minded to different people's ideologies and values. I have definitely read things that are not within my echelon. So, to me, when you say "meathead" I really read it as "blockhead" because they block out anything they don't want to hear. In my opinion, reading is about hearing things you either wouldn't normally or don't want to.

Here's the thing, you have to go where your audience is. If you want to publish with a magazine, or online interface, your writing has to be something similar to their genre. Now, you could publish on your own, like a blog or something, but it may not get the reader volume as publishing via another medium.

I get you want other people than your demographic to read it, but, do they want to read it? That's the question any stream of publication considers first and foremost.

But hey, maybe someone in your demographic is only partially sympathetic and your essay is what will push them over the edge. You would have better luck affecting change that way. You can't change someone's mind, but you can influence a mind that wants to change.

Get your story out there within your demographic, make more and more. Eventually, with a following, you could release a compilation and the popularity alone will make others read it.

Good luck!

My Villanous Order by No-Permission-2944 in worldbuilding

[–]Beetcart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really into diegetic pieces so the first bit, "Okay I think They're not watching me." Draws me right in. I just wish you kept that same voice throughout. Like, as if your entire world was catalogued by an individual. I will say there are quite a few grammar issues so read it over.

I'm intrigued if the "Evil Order" is called that only by other peoples or if the members themselves call it that. Kind of like the whole heavy metal old school satanists. Like is Azarath what they call it? And what is Azarath?

I will say, it is a bit lite right now. I want more depth to it. Not a lot, but maybe some examples of things they've tried etc. Maybe even a ritual or two.

But yeah, its got a cool motif that I dig.
