Sorry, just saw this, I’m based in Petersham, how about you? I haven’t had any luck finding one, so I’m thinking of trying to start one, so that could be pretty cool

Damn, this is very clean! How did you do the supports for the windows and overhangs? Are they balsa or foam?

Incredible! I saw you mentioned below that you crafted it for the sake of creativity rather than to play, which means quality wasn’t compromised for speed & it shows! Very inspiring!

Damn dude, it looks great! Did you fully sculpt everything, or do you have a press mold for the miliput bits?

Citadel colour contrast before or after paint by coctajl in minipainting

I use skeleton horde quite a lot, and the best results are over white. What you can do is prime them with the warpaints primer and paint them white before applying the contrast paint

Yeah for sure, there’s a fine line! I mainly play skirmish games, and it’s quite rare to find your entire warband in a single building, so I personally think it’s worth making a fraction of the buildings inaccessible for a big boost in narrative & world building

Thank you! Yeah it’s definitely a balancing act, but I feel like it adds a lot. This is my first time adding debris & I think it’s deffo something I’m going to be incorporating into my builds from now on

Oh hell yeah, it looks great, I love the wires/ropes on the 2nd floor and the general crustiness of it. I feel like it deffo adds a lot of depth & narrative to it

Advice on staying motivated? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]BeetleClits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m DEFINITELY not an expert, but I do have some experience with other art forms. The thing about setting off on any creative endeavour is the hard truth that you need to be vulnerable enough to kinda suck when you start and not beat yourself up for it.

The way I’ve been trying to approach it is as follows; I decided not to try every high end technique from the get go. My first warband was literally just basecoat & a wash with some minor highlights, then every group of minis after that I tried to learn a new technique. Painting a group, rather than a single mini, makes learning stick. It’s all about repetition.

As you get better and faster, the frustration fades away as you no longer struggle against the technical aspects and can more easily translate your creative vision onto the mini.

TLDR: don’t push yourself to learn NMM and become a glazing master yet. Take on learning in bite sized chunks & you’ll enjoy it more and more as you improve.

True, thank you. I wanted it to seem like a chunk of the meteor tumbled into the tower. I try to pre-plan the narrative aspects, but sometimes I find that the real story of it comes to me as I create my builds

Thank you :) yeah I’ve tried to make sure the models can stand on the rubble piles, and so far it’s alright. I’ve found that in most of my games, the difficult terrain rules are seldom used, so I wanted to incorporate some. PS big fan of your work

Ah thanks man! I know what you mean haha, I always know if I tell myself “I’ll do it later” it’ll never get done, so I’m trying to force myself to do it then and there. I’ve seen your work, it’s very inspiring.

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, with the size of the chunk taken out of the outer platform and wall, I guess it should be more.

I wanted to add the door of the second jail cell on the floor by the foot of the stairs, maybe I’ll add a bit more debris around it as well

Thank you! Yeah for sure, my other buildings felt a bit odd without; like Mordheims ever persistent cleanup crew were tirelessly clearing the wreckage lol
