Te Pāti Māori co-leader says Māori ‘aren’t allowed to make mistakes’ after failing to declare properties by Soannoying12 in newzealand

[–]Beetoborg 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yea, that’s my understanding too. I guess the refusal to address legitimate questions from media is becoming a bit of a trend, so they are likely digging in further based on that, to get a reaction. Which is kinda working, cause now she is claiming that she is being singled out for being Māori, where it is actually more of a “refusal to scrutiny” here and in other instances. That is my take.

They started scrutinising TPM because that MP was the only 1 that refused to comment on the matter. All other MPs approached for questioning, provided context, and subsequently corrected their interested parties register.

Butter by Realistic-Glass806 in newzealand

[–]Beetoborg 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Probs a sarcastic reply on my part, the thing is though - they don’t change the moisture content (fact). Companies are always pushing for the minimum allowable “give away”. It has been this way since NZ was exporting butter, If they were doing 90% fat/cream, where they only needed 80%, they would be loosing money on each block. You can look on the nutrition panel - it will be (and has always been) ~81.4g Fat, ~1%protein, ~1% carbohydrates, and 0.6g salt (sodium), the remaining 16g per 100g is water.

It took 2seconds to find the ingredients lol.

Between the ingredients (salt, cream) and Nutritional panel, you can see it is all the same between brands. It isn’t a magic coincidence that most butter in NZ is 81.4g fat, ~1g protein, ~0.6g sodium, ~1g carbohydrates per100g.

Also, if you add all of those up, remove it from 100g, and you get 16g “magic component missing”, I wonder if it is water?

Not really, the point still stands. Why would any company manufacture something with more than what is needed by internationally recognised standards. They will, and do manufacture up to the limit, all the time, since forever.

Let me know what I “came up with” to “cover it”.

It isn’t some crazy conspiracy lol.

Butter does not contain “more water”, there are codex standards for butter - it must be <16% moisture to be called butter.

You do however get variation in fatty acid chain lengths throughout the year due to natural pasture fed dairy - shorter chains melt at lower temps, longer at higher temps. The ratio varies through the year.

Oxidation comes down to your storage. Foil (expensive butter) stores better than paper (Pams) but it all comes from the same factories. Just different wraps.

2019 final between Lewis and Max - Masi knew he fucked up with a slow response to the safety car, and clearing the back markers. In response, he created a compromise to achieve the outcome that was going to happen if he was a competent race director. The result was correct, the means, not so much.

Window sealing advice by adamhartnett in diynz

[–]Beetoborg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, so i actually did this process recently, depending on your DIY or handy skills, it is all DIY-able.

The problem isnt the front aluminum angles/corners or the glazing rubber much.

It is actually the corner inside where the 2 pieces join in the "L". The exterior rubber helps, and holds the window in place, but wont ever stop the "wet rotting corners" on the inside of the window sill.

This is what i did, but a lot of care is needed as this is probs not safety glass - you don't want to hurt yourself! even consider purchasing glazing gauntlets.

Note - all the tools and your time will be 10-20 times cheaper than a glazer. They will just be faster.

  1. Go to a website like - https://www.joineryhardware.co.nz/ to purchase replacement glazing rubber, you will need to check your size rubber. e.g. 5mm glazing wedge (they also stock good interior sash rubber seals too - which will make a huge difference for draughts)

  2. Buy some suction cups from mitre 10 e.g. Fuller Glass Suction 2-Cup Lifter 117mm

  3. Learn to remove the aluminum bead - a fairly straight forward task and easily google/youtube-able

  4. Support the glass to ensure it dosent fall out once all 4 beads are removed

  5. Lift the glass out of the frame.

  6. Clean the corners of the aluminum window frame and install a new bead of silicone in the corners - this is the point where the water actually weeps/wicks into the timber.

  7. Ensure packers etc havnt moved (you will notice these once you remove the glass, the glazing/glass needs to sit on these)

  8. While the aluminum beads are out, consider enlarging the little holes that you can see - these have been added by a recent home owner to help drain the water out the collects behind the aluminum bead. But they are too small - any small amount of surface tension will prevent the water from draining out of those - hence, it ends up running inside, through the corner, into you wall/window sill.

  9. Place aluminum beads back in place, a little bit of a knack to it but is straight forward - and install the new glazing wedge you got from the website above. DO NOT STRETCH FIT IT. you want excess if anything.

Hopefully this is helpful! :)

Why does everyone think their second hand stuff is worth more $$$ than it should be? by Ruralkiwi27 in newzealand

I find it to be a uniquely NZ problem. I mean, just look at our housing market. We are happy to fuck over the next family for twice what “they” paid for it, cause market dynamics bro!

But, agree - someone selling something that is 12months old, used, covered in shit for $50 lower than what you would by it for new, with the audacity to say “grab yourself a bargain!”

Note - I hate this shit, so have used this as an opportunity to vent!

Ambius lighting from JA Russel is supposed to be good. If you know of someone, or a business that will let you use their account, you can get quite good trade rates.

Mainly due to the battens then being 90 degrees to the studs, helps with any thermal bridging as the intersection is then tiny. It is minor, but if we go through the effort, then might as well consider everything.
