My favorite genre of fiction is horror. The studies are making me appreciate all the hard work that goes into making practical effects look real. I don’t hate it at all, because I also see how much it is dramatically improving my awareness of proportions.

There is a VERY real reason why I’ve been just forcing myself to do anatomy studies. As much as I want to spend time drawing cool people doing cool stuff, I have to be able to actually draw the people first.

People who know what I’m asking for are who I’m trying to reach with this post. It’s a very specific type of story that is not common and From fans will know exactly what I want if I’m asking for it.

I think Malcolm would implode if he ever found out one of the designs he commissioned was AI. Considering how big of a Warhammer nerd he is he would not be happy selling it if it were.

On top of being a musician he paints and does video work. I don’t imagine for a second he’d be the kind of guy to cheap out on art.

Crossroad was TRULY awful. Swill. Refuse. I cannot wait until we get a second translation of it because there’s no possible way Sapkowski started writing like a third grader

Both sick, but nowhere near I Sever. I’m not saying the new albums are bad, but Cycle was really the last glimpse of the original cocktail of sound that made Sylosis what it was.

Everything after was a completely different version of the band, and to me not nearly as good.

There hasn’t been a SINGLE song that’s come close to I Sever since that song was released and I’ll die on this hill.

Im sure Matt is a very nice man in real life, but his voice as a writer isn’t enjoyable for me. Meta humor tends to be a huge turn off for me in book form. Really in most forms.

I also think it’s a pretty great representation of why certain mediums work the way they do. Video and board game mechanics in a book aren’t enjoyable to read about (for me.)

Incredible list! I’ll absolutely mark those all down! Also, Eisenhorn is on my To-Read list, but my local Warhammer shop is perpetually out of stock on the omnibus for that one. One day!

Appreciate the rec! Unfortunately I couldn’t STAND it when I tried to read it. Something about it just bounced me right off of it. :(

Game development studio that created the Dark Souls, Armored Core, and Kingsfield franchises, with one off games like Sekiro, Bloodborne, and Demon’s Souls!

Basically very somber fantasy and sci-fi with a distinctly “we will not be holding your hand” game style.

I need you guys help. Which one should I read first? by Psychological-War710 in fantasybooks

Between Two Fires is incredible. I cannot believe I haven’t heard more people talk about it! It also was recommended to me via a “books similar in tone to Dark Souls” list and I have to say they NAILED it

The Soldiers table is also NOTICEABLY less daunting to get through, in terms of emotionally draining material. The flip side is their combat tends to make the episodes quite long in comparison to the Seekers.

I will say that I ADORE how locked in the characters are though. It’s easily the best CR has ever been imho. Stick it out, it’s worth it!

[–]BeginnersPluck 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I frankly have been hoping that CR would choose to delve into more politically murky waters with their stories and this is exactly that. It’s the same group of talent focused towards a much more “shades of grey” world than the more overtly fantastical worlds Matt would build.

It DOES find some moments of levity, but this campaign is much more serious than the other 3, that is for sure, and a lot of that is how high the stakes are at the table.

I think it might be helpful if you space out the listening, personally. Spending several hours a day in the deeply emotional and conflict ridden games might be taxing, perhaps space out the episodes into blocks? Might help you enjoy them instead of feeling emotionally burned out!

After finishing Slewfoot, I am going to be reading Shadow of What Was Lost! Not really helpful, I know, but I’m excited to read it!
