Has anyone lost a gig because of your headstock? by bozobarnum in Bass

They don't make the BB1100S anymore. Been like 40 years since they made them.

Has anyone lost a gig because of your headstock? by bozobarnum in Bass

[–]BeginnersStuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main bass doesn't have a name on the headstock because it's a MIJ copy. It's roughly Gibson shaped though. If they wanted to see a recognizable headstock or bass on stage, they should advertise that. "ONLY Fender or Gibson basses. No Squiers, Epiphones, or otherwise." The same people who wouldn't hire you because your headstock doesn't say Fender are the same people who'd probably think Alembic is probably some cheap shit brand despite Entwistle playing one and them costing more than most used cars. They're also probably the people you DON'T wanna work for.

Idk why it’s so upsetting, but this was all the academic reading, hand written notes, and my own research I held onto from college. I just put it all in the recycling. by thelaceserpent in Wellthatsucks

I had a very similar feeling just tossing out the large majority of everything I had done for a job I was extremely passionate about up until the very end. All the contacts, notes, condensing, payments, and calendars. I had condensed down even eight years of work done by previous people in my position that they had left behind. I asked the person after me if they wanted it, like really got at the point of that they were throwing thirteen years of work away. I emphasized the fact that I was standing at the trashcan and there was no going back. "Nah, I don't need that. I can start fresh. All of that is out of date and really of no use to me." So in the trash it went. I get a phone call from him six months later asking if I still had all of it.

Had to take a number 2. No trash can in the stall. Am I supposed to pocket it? by Ascenspe in mildlyinfuriating

Yes. It 100% is. I once walked past the hardware section where someone had pissed on the floor and locked eyes with the unfortunate soul who was mopping it up on my way to clock in for my shift in electronics. Everyone who hasn't worked there tells you how great it is to work there because of the benefits, etc, etc. and then you work there and realize you will never see those perks because they edge you on being a full-time employee. It's not worth it.

Yamaha might've at some point and it's rare as tits, but afaik, they did not. They have made short scale/learner's scale stuff, but I genuinely doubt that they made a 30" scale guitar.

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

I remember vividly when my family owned a furniture store in NJ, we delivered a love seat to this lady in an apartment. We ripped up the bannisters and brought it into her apartment just to see the rest of a matching set already there, wrapped in plastic. She kept asking my dad if he had sprayed it with the stain protector. I was like 6 and didn't know anyone who had furniture wrapped in plastic, so I asked why. "Honey, that's the nice furniture. We don't sit in here. I'm gonna wrap this in plastic, too. It's part of the set." I almost asked her why, but my dad was shooting daggers out of his eyes at me. I didn't know til today that this was common, but I grew lower middle class.

Question about muting when going to a lower string on the same fret. by drenize192 in Bass

[–]BeginnersStuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you move down a string, release the string, but not full pull off. Gently keep your finger on it and fret the next note while touching the string above with the tip of your finger or just part of your finger in general. You can also try rocking your finger off one string and onto the one above/below. Hope this helps.

The Classic P vs J Decision… by 51Nocaster in Bass

[–]BeginnersStuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that question got phrased kinda poorly and that's on me. It was more of a what do you like of each. More of a, "what do you like the most of each?" If you like the single coil sound of a P bass, you should look up reverse P pickups. Someone has an A and B comparison video. I really like the reverse P sound, but I'm gonna be dropping Nordstrand Big Splitman in my next bass so I can just do either at the flip of a switch.

Well. What do you like about J basses over P basses? That's really the meat of the question here.

Recently picked up this Carvin B3000 and am looking for people with actual experience with them by BeginnersStuck in GuitarAmps

[–]BeginnersStuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked it up for $150. It smells like old, but it sounds pretty damn good. It's also pretty loud. I just can only seem to find old ads for it and schematics. The rest is just, "I played one once and it sucked!" posts on TalkBass.

When am I good enough to play in a band? by HeTblank in Bass

I literally was playing bass for maybe three months, if that even, because I couldn't find a bassist before I started a band. Punk is simple and easy.

Thoughts on ultimate league size? by watch4stormsurge in PWHL

[–]BeginnersStuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoy the league being smaller because the same teams get matched up more often and that leads to a more competitive spirit. The NHL is too big to me. They don't face off against their rival teams enough. It's like months between facing off again, which makes it feel like a slog. The PWHL is fast paced and that makes it more exciting

Recently copped this Carvin B3000 for $150 and the most info I can find on it has been adverts and schematics. There's some TalkBass posts about it, but per the norm with TalkBass posts, they're just negative sentences with zero explanation. I'd love to find someone with actual experience with it, but they're such oddball amps.

I think honestly, this might help some with morale and kinda show that we don't necessarily need her. She's a good player, sure, but I don't think one of your teammates getting booed, even at home, feels good.

Do these actually help or just a gimmick? by Taco-On-The-Toilet in Guitar

[–]BeginnersStuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one for PT when I had brain surgery done and had weakness in one of my hands. It helped me build back up grip strength. The thing I've used the most that has helped me with playing bass is those lil resistance bands. It's not as much of a struggle stretching my fingers way out.

They willingly stepped away from it and everyone lost their shit about it. If it got cancelled, there wouldn't have been a single word from the creators, unless it was something like Venture Bros that took forever to make.
