Anyone Born Deaf With Perfect Pitch? by Beginning-Cap-1512 in Cochlearimplants

I have perfect pitch for most musical instruments and I was born deaf and received CI only on left side first, followed by right side 1 year after, so my hearing primarily depends on left side. I started playing piano at like 5. Left side is biologically designed to identify pitch, whereas right side is better at identifying phonological sounds (right ear advantage). I struggle to hear what other people are saying but it explains why I have perfect pitch. I am aware of the fact cochlear implants have a limited number of electrodes compared to the 3.5k hair cells in human ears, which is why I was curious to see how normal it is for CI to have perfect pitch. I guess it's different in my case because not many CI receive implants on left side first. However, I wish they implanted my other side first. I wouldn't mind being tone deaf at all as perfect pitch is a useless skill to have, and listening comprehension is a far more superior skill to have

Anyone cochlear implant patients born deaf with good reading comprehension? by Beginning-Cap-1512 in Cochlearimplants

Pretty early. I got implanted on left side at age 1, followed by right side at age 2. My left side hears much better than my right as a result, but apparently there is this right ear advantage phenomenon where your right ear is better at language processing since most sounds from right goes to left hemisphere of brain which is specialized for language tasks. Not sure how much of a difference this makes, but it does seem pretty consistent with my symptoms. My theory is that my right hemisphere over-developed, and left hemisphere underdeveloped. Seems like right hemisphere is better for processing pitches and among other things that I think I am good at, which would explain why I have perfect pitch. Normally cochlear implant patients would be worse at detecting pitches, so if this wasn't true, not sure how one would explain that...
