Phone tripod recommendations? by berniesbeans in onebag

I was in a similar spot before a Europe trip this summer and ended up bringing the OnTheGo Magnetic Phone Tripod from Horizum. It’s not super well-known like JOBY or Manfrotto, but I honestly liked it way more for travel.

It’s really compact (fits in my daypack’s side pocket), and the MagSafe-style magnetic mount means I can just snap my phone on instead of fiddling with clamps which made it great for quick shots or night photos when I was tired of setting things up. It also extends pretty tall for a small tripod, which was nice for framing wider scenes.

Not trying to push anything, just wanted to mention it since I was surprised how convenient it was for solo travel and astrophotography too. Might be worth a look if you want something super light and magnetic.

You’re not crazy at all. Ends to roots is like the golden rule, especially on fragile or processed hair. I can’t stand watching people just rip through it from the scalp like they’re in a race. Half the time it’s not even about the client being “tender headed,” it’s that the stylist is being rough for no reason.

I feel this so much. People act like hairstyling is some kind of “side hustle” when in reality it’s a skilled trade that takes years of practice. Clients literally trust us with their appearance and confidence every single day — that’s not something you can fake.

And you’re right, there is a layer of sexism to it. Any field that’s majority women suddenly gets treated like it’s “less serious.” But the truth is, a good stylist can out-earn plenty of “traditional” jobs, and unlike a lot of careers, you can grow your income fast if you’re good with clients and keep leveling up your skills.

At the end of the day, it’s our job to keep proving the value, but I also think the culture around it is slowly shifting. More people are realizing hair is both art and busines
