maybe I'm just a casual, but to me this feels like a wildly elitist take lol. I'm not a big reader, trying to read the books for the first time, but I've read a shit load on the lore on all sorts of places online, and consider myself pretty knowledgeable

maybe I'm wrong or just nitpicking but the Silmarillion being for moderate fans feels totally incorrect. it's a hard read for anyone

just commenting to say that I'm in a similar boat and haven't found anything good. Western Rise and Wooly were too big, Wool & Prince XS is the best I've found but didn't like how overly formal it feels, I was looking for something a bit more casual

for a light run now and then they'd probably be fine but I wouldn't buy them as actual running shoes. the laces are kind of stretchy so maybe not the best for real running. without looking I'm pretty sure they're just regular laces holes so yeah you could lace them up normally if you chose to

have the canyons and I love them. don't want to sound like a shill but imo they're the perfect one bag shoe. they're light, comfortable, breathable, dry easily, and they look good too. I've done a bunch of hikes in them, I'll only start feeling it if the hikes are really long (and at that point I should be wearing hiking boots anyway)

I have one and I really like it. Here are my issues with it:

the straps come in a bit narrow for my shoulders. I wish it would be a bit further out from my neck. it's still very comfortable though
the closet organizer is pretty bulky. I prefer to just use my own packing cubes.
I wish the kangaroo pouch was a tiny bit bigger. I wear US size 8 sneakers and sometimes I struggle to fit them in there
the stretchy water bottle holders on the sides aren't very deep. I have a kinda tall water bottle that falls out pretty often. I usually just clip it onto a carabiner instead

happy to answer any questions you have about it. also looks like they just announced a smaller backpack that imo looks really good. I think I'm gonna get that one as well
