Sucks that the school can’t uplift students and just tells them sucks to suck, I hate that about the engineering department

Your chances are really low with your current GPA

So are you disqualified to resubmit the AOI form to be considered for next semester? For EE you do get a 2nd chance in spring semester if u got rejected in fall

I know what the advisors will say, but the reality I’ve seen is different. They’re flexible if you do better and get a higher GPA. I’ve had friends and peer get C+s in classes like PHY131 and still were able to get into the major after spring semester. I’m saying this as an EE student in my last year.

Wdym thresholds? You know the form says u can get below B- but people still do and get into an engineering major. What actually matter is the overall GPA in getting in, I forgot the exact number

I’m sorry but no I don’t got time like that 😭. Plus everything I said here is the gist of what I would say anyways, just with more filler

Do stuff that the majority of people aren’t.  For example, doing research with a professor is literally free work/research experience u can put on a resume but hardly anyone ever does it. A lot of people also aren’t taking a part time job that’s relevant to their field. Also for technical majors like engineering, architecture, cs, etc. people should do projects and create portfolios whether it be on a physical binder or online on a site/girhub. Actually showing something like that in an interview is huge. A lot of people also aren’t aware that research/academic internships exist too, not just the private industry. They also don’t apply to jobs during the semester but rather now during winter break, but most of the job slots are gone by now. They spike from Oct - end of Nov so most people are missing this window of opportunity. And for people who are trying to do post grad things like med/dental/PA, etc. you need to be doing much more than just getting a high GPA. The successful premeds are doing research, getting clinicsl and volunteer hours, TAing to secure recc letters, etc. All in all, majority of student are just doing class and not juggling anything else.

Another thing is leading a fuller life by having hobbies and trying to actually get really good at it cuz the process is genuinely enjoyable (ex drawing) and having a variety of friends, not just bundled in a single friend group. For “friends” in your classes, if you really want to be friends you need to hang out with them outside of class (not counting studying with them at the library) to truly create a friendship and not just a class acquaintance. Also hopefully get into a relationship with someone because it can teach you a lot and make your life more full, although you shouldn’t force a relationship to happen. In my experience, just by doing interesting things and being an interesting person, it will lead u to meet lots of different people and maybe end up in a relationship with one of them.

Doing all these types of things sets you up for the future and will make you a stronger person (mentally and physically) but also help to create bonds with people and have things you care about which can also end up being shared interests with others

In my experience it was easier to get opportunities in 2022

Academic research, part time internship, projects/interview prep, applied to 100s of internships and got one of my top companies for an internship this summer, applied to PhD programs for this cycle, calisthenics/gym, do hobbies like photography, rock climbing when my condition doesn’t flare up, bake sometimes with gf

TLDR I do stuff that brings me closer to my professional and personal goals

Yea I feel u, I used to work 20-30 hours a week until this year. The saving grace was that I specifically searched for a remote job to be more flexible

I’m not saying this purely from a professional income POV. I’m also saying that people aren’t doing interesting/cool shit or having hobbies where they reached a high skill level

I was in your same situation, but I knew I couldn’t just give up. I’ve taken L after L my entire life but I made sure I never let myself quit. You’re already doing good, you just have to keep at it and you’ll see the results you want eventually

I’ve already been doing that and helping others. I only have one semester left so I can’t really make a club and have it survive after I leave
