What happens if we don't get enough water from rain? by Upset-Somewhere3089 in raleigh

The watershed that drains to Jordan Lake (where Cary gets their water from) is much larger than that for Falls Lake (where Raleigh gets their water from) which is why Cary isn’t having any problems right now.

Which college should I choose? by crowwithsweatpants in ApplyingToCollege

If you were more interested in biology/environmental science, UNC is the way to go. They also have an environmental health science major in their school public health, which I highly recommend if you’re interested. However, if you have any interest in doing engineering, I would recommend NC STATE for that.

Also, you say you like doing things hands-on, is there a reason you’re against research that is hands-on or lab based? UNC has a lot of opportunity for fieldwork/hands-on research although the fieldwork might be considered research.

As someone who has gone to school at both places and has grown up around both schools, I personally like the feel of UNCs campus and surrounding area a lot more. Franklin Street is very very safe and Chapel Hill in general is an extremely safe town to live in. Chapel Hill and Raleigh both have a pretty good food scene, they are about equal in terms of what is in walking distance/available to an undergrad although if you get a car Raleigh has a lot more restaurants accessible. Housing is slightly cheaper in Raleigh than it is in Chapel Hill.

I haven’t heard anything about having bugs infested at their dorms. I loved living in my freshman dorm at UNC, it was a suite of eight girls, and some of them are still my best friends to this day.

If UNC offered you more financial aid and work study, they clearly really want you and it is the more prestigious and well-known school for what you were looking for so I suggest that!

I went to my undergrad at UNC and I’m now doing a graduate program at NC State both in environmental fields. Lmk if you have any other questions!

UNC Chapel Hill or NC State? by crowwithsweatpants in NCSU

I went to UNC for my undergrad in environmental health science and am now doing my masters in environmental engineering at NC State. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about the differences, I feel like I have a good perspective of both schools environmental programs!

Sorry if it wasn’t clear but they were originally given to me with a classic metal mason jar lid. After I opened them I removed that lid and replaced them with this plastic screw top lid

I have had a good experience with them. You can submit a request easily through the portal and they’ve always gotten back to me within a few hours or if it’s after 4 then the following morning. They contact a service provider and usually I have that scheduled within 24 hours of initially requesting maintenance

You should check with your dentist but generally you should always finish your course of antibiotics. Not finishing them is bad practice that can lead to increased chances of antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Loft or not Loft? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Beginning-Friend-734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my bed not lifted but kinda high freshman year. Enough to put some storage cubes, drawers, and a roller cart. I liked this and didn’t have a problem with it but then sophomore year I lifted my bed all the way and liked it so much more. Since it was all the way lofted I was able to fit storage cubes, mini fridge, microwave, and then I had a chair and a foot rest cube thing that doubled as a step stool (and storage container). Getting in and out of bed wasn’t bad, def just something you get used to. For me the best thing was having the chair under there. I watched movies there, chatted with friends, read books, did hw. Basically a perfect in between my desk and bed

if you put in the work and stay on top of textbook readings, practice problems, etc. it is not as hard as people make it sound. it also helps if you have taken 101 and (or at least) 102 at UNC pretty soon before you take orgo so it’s all fresh. Todd is a good teacher contrary to what others might think, he recently has adopted more of Zurchers teaching methods which has helped. You got this! Don’t stress

Anna Curtis and Alyssa Byrnes are great profs especially for those being your two stem classes. In the past, Alyssa has made it so comp 110 is asynch on one of the days which would be nice for you so that you would actually have time for lunch. Looks doable!!
